A while back I purchased a watch from Israel, and upon arrival to the US, I got a call from FedEx that I had to pay duties. And even after that, a fews months later, I got a letter from the California tax board, that I had to pay "them" a tax as well. Never again.

Anything coming in to the UK from outside the EU will be liable to an import tax of 20% plus a handling fee. The tax is based on the declared value or, if felt to be undervalued on the declaration, on the perceived value.

In theory taxable items will suffer a tax charge if its worth collecting and typically this is anything over £9 in tax.....so items with a value of over £45...... Unfortunately, the watch will not be released until the tax is paid.....

This is not a Fedex issue but just UK customs and will apply to any carrier.

I think fedex actually has its own department for processing VAT for the gov in UK. Ive always been charged tax with them but never with other companies.

Yes - that's frustrating but not unusual.

Yep, had this before with FedEx for something else and the tax letter arrived a couple of weeks after the delivery. It's UK customs, not FedEx, so no choice but to pay
