It's not one of the iconic Rolex's - Sub, GMT, or DJ. The average Joe buying a Rolex tends to go for something that says Rolex.

The color scheme on the Milgauss isn't for everybody (though the pattern of the old black dial was carried forward in the new OPs). The second hand turns off the purists. And the price point is a bit high for a watch that only tells time.

That said, I love mine.

If I were to get a Milgauss, this would be the one.

May I ask, is the dial Matte?

Thanks!

Initially, I had no plans to buy this watch. But after reading about it's history and purpose, I became intrigued. After that, all it took was one trip to an AD and the rest is history. No regrets :)

Best,

Scott

True that it's not the most popular Rolex. Which is what makes it more exciting to wear. Something that doesn't scream Rolex ,and it really is refreshing to look at the lightning bolt second hand. A little cheeky if I would say so myself. Love this even after five years...

I like mine. It's an engineer's watch and I'm an engineer, so the quirks probably don't bug me as much as they might other people.

It is. But a shade darker than the GV matte IMO.

I think it's very cool. I've never had one but would be open to putting it on my list of must haves for sure.

That's part of the problem too - the ant-mag is decidedly UNIMPRESSIVE. It's a movement in a faraday cage, just like almost every other anti-mag watch ever produced. Omega having 10 times the magnetic resistance with a display back, however, IS actually impressive. Too bad most of their watches look to have been designed by twelve year olds, because the ETA engineering is top notch.

Because of that ugly seconds hand. I'd own one if the seconds hand was more like the original...

I for the life of me do not understand who at Rolex would think it would be cute to put a lightning bolt on this watch...it wasn't cute.

Also, the entire watch should be brushed...this was originally designed to be a tool watch in a lab.

So close to being such a nice watch.

They would sell a million more of them if they would just change the second hand design; even if they keep it orange. Someone called it a bit cartoonish - exactly the issue on something that should be a bit more upscale given the cost. It's silly looking. A guy in my office has one and that's the 'look' he was going for himself, but I can't imagine there are that many people into that type of design.

It is not one of the Rolex classic. Color is too playful, too fashion to some guys from a classic brand. Have heard from people said Milgauss is the only watch from Rolex that is not fully in-house due to the green crystal. Technically Rolex didn't produce the crystal themselves.

I got one and I love it. It is my first Rolex choice.

Photograph this myself. with this blackwatch plaid scarf behind you can imagine, if you dress well, Milgauss can be serious.

I bought a black dial Milgauss when I heard they were stopping production of that model. The history of the watch is what first got my attention. Then after seeing one in an AD, I new I wanted one. As for the faraday cage being useless, I beg to differ. I'm in a technology field that puts me in position where I'm around magnetic fields fairly regularly. The Milgauss may not be popular, and they also don't produce nearly as many Milgauss watches as the more popular models. And frankly, that's just the way I like it.

People must like it, or Rolex wouldn't have kept it for the GV or the z-blue.

FWIW, the lightning bolt was part of Milgauss long before Rolex was the stately brand it is today.

The original Milgauss (6541)...

Its a cool watch for sure I'm a fan. As for why the vintage Milgauss is popular: Rolex professional + scarcity = popularity

Howdy,

Personally, I love it for a variety of reasons including the fact that it is so uncommon and under the radar. Its such a unique piece that, next to the Hulk, its tied as probably my second favorite model.

Take care,

Ruddiger

Why is the Milgauss so unpopular?

I love the GV. It feels great on the wrist with the slightly curving case and heft. Love it I say.

Rarely - if ever - do you see one in the wild. Really adds to the appeal to me.

That said, some dufus parent at my kids preschool just got one! Previousky, the guy would always be sporting some Oakley Quartz watch - to match his "O" Oakley t-shirts...

I make sure to never where mine if I know he's going to be about. I suspect it must have been a gift. If i were to say, "Nice Milgauss!" I have a strong feeling he'd say, "Huh? It's a Rolex!" 😆

I love the Milgauss - especially the GV variants. It's not popular though - my AD told me that they maybe sell 1 GV for every 25 Date Justs. Personally, that's part of it's appeal for me, alongside the scientific heritage

The one thing we can be sure about is that none of us know which models will be the future classics.
I look upon the Milgauss with fondness. Not least because, after too much wine with lunch, I slipped down a dozen concrete steps in Lisbon; I was a bit bruised, the watch was grazed, but it never missed a beat. These, like most Rolexes, are tough little beasts.
Me, I am more careful these days.
