I have a 30 dollar Casio for the gym. I wont wear a watch doing car work. Other than that, it's pretty much on.

Not with my Rolexes, and before I got a TBB I only had PMs, but yes for my RG Nautilus, it still looks pristine after 6 months and I want to keep it that way. It is my decadent dressy watch.

I wear my Rolex for any type of activity. This is one of the reason I decided to stick to the Explorer 2.

In the old days when I got my first "expensive" watch I used to do that. Not anymore. Life is too short. Want to enjoy my watches all of he time.

Was sitting at my dining room table one night and decided to go to bed. Was carrying an iPad, 2 cell phones, bottle of water and my gmt. I was balancing everything in the iPad and went to shut off the light. gmt tumbled off and flew thru the vents of a door that houses an air conditioning unit. it hit the brackets and scratched the bracelet pretty badly.

that is the worst Rolex story I have.

I was allowed to have only one really nice watch. We spent a lot of money for it & I'll be damned if it's going to sit on the sidelines for anything!!

I play golf with mine, swim with it, cut the grass etc.

I do wear an Apple Watch to work because I know I'll damage it sooner or later.

I buy my watches to wear but not use my good watches for hardcore activity. I got G-Shocks for that!

3). Scuba
4). Biking
5). Hiking
6). Jog/Run
7). Golf
8). Tennis ( Federer practices with his Daytona and DJ 2,)

10). Carpentry?
11). Car work ( depends, just dont hit the watch with a wrench)

Basketball ( prolly not, i take off the watch for that)
Can't wear a watch, or a ring, or any jewelry while practicing martial arts. It tends to seriously scratch & hurt people.

I take off my watch all the time whenever I want to do so. I leave it sitting on my desk at work all the time (although that probably isn't the best idea).

I'll also swap it out for a more purposeful one depending upon the activity, for example:
- if I need a heart rate monitor, I swap out to my Polar (none of my Rolexes can tell me my heart rate)
- if I'm scuba diving, I wear watches which provide a depth gauge as well as a bottom timer (none of my rolexes can give me depth)

Two "camps"

There seem to be, IMO, two camps here;

1. Won't put my Rolex needlessly in harm's way, will wear my G Shock instead.

2. Damn the torpedoes they're built to take anything and I will wear my Rolex no matter what I'm doing and/or what potential harm could befall.

Curious as to how many in camp "2" would be honest and cop to it if they in fact did sustain some damage as a result of wearing their Rolex for a risky activity and then, while boxing it up to sent to the RSC, wished they hadn't...

I think the big question is how each person defines "putting the watch in harms way". In some cases it's typing on a keyboard and in other cases it's welding....

I bought mine to wear all the time. I would rather fix a broken bezel than worry about if I can wear my watch for the day or leave it in the safe.

There are some acitivities I would be "prudent" about.

1). Cutting trees ( def no no)
2). changing a flat tire ( prolly remove it)
and similar activities

I think, sports in general, Rolexes are rock solid, i.e, tennis, racquetball, golf, surfing, scuba obviously, running,

Harms way? Would I wear just to test it , to see if it will break? I don't know. Probably not. Would i wear it because I believe it can withstand it? Yes for sure. But not to go out of my way to see if it will withst6and it, but would that not be fun?
example: Rock climbing. Rappeling. Would you wear your DD or DJ for that?
I would not be too sure...lol

Fair point, my personal level of common sense dictates that for some things I throw on the G Shock and have at it but then again there are some who would say "You're nuts to do that wearing a nice G Shock watch"...

At the same time one post was from an individual stating that, compared to others in his collection, a Rolex is his beater watch... it's all perspective as with so many things...

I don't switch to another watch according to the activity but I do take it off (as I would with any watch, wedding ring etc.) for safety reasons, self or others injury prevention as well as when undue tear / damage is highly likely.
Last but not least, I also take it off before any bed activity.

I'm not a fan of wearing Rolex during workout or any sports activities.. that's why G-shocks and Nike are made for!

My father cuts trees down with his Rose & Stainless Date Just, if it can withstand the vibrations from a chain saw it can hold up to just about anything.

Its not the vibrations, its more the branches scratching.
I wore my Tag Heuer one time cutting some branches with gloves on ( why did I do that?) and it came out like 1000 chickens scratched it...i felt bad..:)

I dont even understand why I had to wear a watch when I was tree/branch cutting...

do you ever...

I wear my Tissot when working on my house. Besides that there's no job that I would not do in either my submariner or my breitling.
I do tend to wear my breitling when I know that it is going to take more of a beating.
