I share your affliction of staring at/photographing my watch. I can't tell you how many times someone honked at me when the light turned green.

I'm sitting at the DMV waiting to renew my license. I just majorly laughed out loud at that one. People are staring.

Mick,

I respectfully disagree. I believe that Subs, SeaDwellers, and GMTs can be worn with a suit. AND they look beautiful with long sleeve shirts. In my opinion, you are wrong on this.

A few other points of correction: I was obviously taking a picture of my watch and prominently featuring it, my arm was stretched out, and up...all of those reasons are why you can see the watch sticking out of the sleeve.

I will also point out that you got my watch wrong too, I'm wearing a DSSD.

And if a Sub/GMT will fit under your cuff, so will a DSSD. If your cuff is too small to fit a Sub, then a lot of other watches won't fit either. My cuffs allow my DSSD to fit BEAUTIFULLY under a cuff!

The last thing I will say, is I have never seen a Rolex that "looks stupid". Maybe its a generational thing, but sorry, I just haven't. Have a great day!

Salty Mick Mondays?

I can imagine the arm move to pop the watch out for a pose and a click.

DSSD is a great wedding watch. It can handle a deep dive into the open bar!

Guilty. Happens all the time.
And I think the DSSD works with anything. Love it!

Love the dssd and of course it can be worn with a suit. You can wear anything with a suit.

Doesn't mean it looks good though.

WOW! Someone has a case of the Mondays 😉 ... Honestly, I thought the same thing. Which is why I sold my Breitling Steelfish. It was a monster on me. Just not my style... This forum would suck if everyone liked the same thing.

Mick's right, IMO. The watch looks absolutely terrible with a shirt and suit. There's a time and a place for a sports watch, and a wedding isn't one of them.

My wife would kick my ankle so hard that I'd cry if I took a picture of my watch at a wedding.

Shirt cuff buttons can be moved enough to accommodate almost any big watch. Or, you can buy made to measure shirts with a larger cuff on the watch arm.

We Americans could learn alot about dress and manners from our friends across the pond!!! While this is a free country, and we can wear whatever we want, that doesn't mean we should. The theme for the sermon yesterday at church was about making appropriate choices. While we can do certain things, that doesn't mean we should. And yes, I wore an appropriate watch to church with my suit. A two handed precious metal dress watch on a black strap.

Mick, you speak with such expertise on watches and fashion, I'm just dying to know who appointed you with the authority to tell other people what watch they “need” to wear?
While you’re compiling your list of qualifications, perhaps it would be a good idea to refresh yourself on manners. Do you really come to a watch forum to criticize people? I just don’t get it…

While I agree that smaller watches look a lot better in formal attire than big watches, I don't think it has anything to do with what is appropriate or manners. Come on guys, lay up.

I'm rockin this in shorts and a t shirt, and I don't care.

The Reverso is a Sports watch, nothing wrong with rocking it in shorts.

To the ecclesiastical gentleman above, spot on.

Hi Rob!!!! That's a beautiful watch, love JLC!!! Not quite sure what 'Lay up" means, maybe a generational thing??!! Your watch looks great with the shorts. Dial is a little busy for a true dress watch, looks fantastic with your outfit.

Chaps

First of all I am a British retiree currently living in Spain, so I certainly do not have "bad mondays" anymore. I fact today I spent a few hours today on the coast basking in 31 degrees and then had lunch in a sea side restaurant with my wife.

Last year I purchased a Sub and three days later attended the wedding of my son. I wore formal morning wear with what you Americans call French cuffs or Double cuffs in the UK.

The Sub kept catching on my cuffs on the bezel and it was driving me mad. After an hour or so I took the Sub off and slipped it into my pocket and normal life was resumed.

When I got home, I slipped my 39mm Explorer on and the cuff just slid over it naturally. A Datejust is at home in the office because the bezel allows the cuff to slide over the watch without snagging. You cannot do that with a Sub, a GMT or a SeaDweller. That was what I was saying in my post.

Finally, to the chap whose post above, I am responding to, I cannot see where I have criticised anyone. I said and still believe that watches with protuding bezels are prone to snagging cuffs which looks ridiculous in a formal setting.

If you feel happy walking around with a snagged cuff, then feel free to continue doing so. I shall now sit in my balcony, overlooking the Spanish mountains and will sip my Spanish wine and nibble olives like the grumpy old bugger you think I am.

Love and kisses

Mick

Haha I enjoyed this post, the sub fits just about under my cuffs, anything much bigger would not and I don't think that would be a classy look with it snagging. So generically with Mick here.

Mick -I've always enjoyed your posts, this was no exception. I completely agree with you that some watches just do not look good on specific attires. However, it's when you said "it looks stupid" that most likely ruffled the feathers of some. That was probably an innocuous locational phrase that doesn't translate all that well in the states.

"Stupid looking" and "Rolex" usually don't make it in the same sentence, unless that sentence has "rappers" or "Beiber" already in it.

Actually "criticized" is a rather sugarcoated way to describe telling someone what they're doing or wearing "...looks stupid".

For some one who is continuously at the forefront of the formalities discussion, you're lacking some common decency there.

Thanks for the love and kisses though.

I am extremely offended by your offhand disparagement of rappers and Justin Bieber, being as I am a big fan of their music.
