This is how I can get a new Rolex Platona absolutely free

Its so easy, and I don't have to do anything. The fact, is I MUST do nothing, and in less than 3 years I would basically get one for free.
Here is how my simple plan works.
I was shopping for a new car this weekend, as my current car is just over 3 years old. I was thinking, do I really need a new car when the one I have has only 19,000 miles on it? I still love it and really no reason other than I usually get a new car every 2 or 3 years.
But here are the true numbers on my current car.
Paid over $130,000 in 2013 including taxes. I do not lease nor take any notes out on cars.
Car would book out today at maybe $60,000, and more like $55,000, costing me roughly 65,000 in depreciation. Damn, 65,000 would of bought a Platona and even maybe a new D-sea as well.
So it kind of makes sense not to make this mistake over and over again, and just enjoy a nice car for 5 or 6 years.

Does this seem to make sense, cause it does to me.

Bottom line for me, maybe keep cars a bit longer and enjoy more watches for free.

Why not buy the ex-demo car instead of new and save money at the start as well ?

This seems like the coworker who once told me his new TV was "free". I asked him how he got a TV for free. He said "Simple-I was making payments on the old one for $X/month, and I was able to finance the new one for the same payment if I traded the old one in. So it's free."

Not sure how it is free, the cost still has to be paid for somehow.

It really comes down to this: do you want a new car and no Pt Daytona, or your old car + a Pt Daytona. Nothing is free. The itch for the new car will surely remain.

I want to know what car OP has now. Maserati GranTurismo? Only car I think of that can depreciate that much in 3 years time.

I keep my cars for 6-8 years, and hate changing. I could have bought a platona, but made other choices.

It is basically free because I am not taking the huge hits on depreciation each and every month.
That is money that simply evaporates each and every month that could of bought a grail watch.

I just think, as far as a business decision, it makes sense and really has nothing to do with what I can afford or not.

Guess I knew this question would come up.
Its a fully loaded 2013 MB SL550. Sticker was 124,300 plus taxes.

Do the math, my watch went POOF!!!!

So by using that logic, buying no car at all could get you many watches for free?

Good luck

LOL I was actually going to call that car out next. Either S class or 7 Series. Yeah as far as cars go, I used to lease and realize it's a waste of money, unless you can claim it as a tax deduction for a business. So I only buy CPO cars from here on out. Depreciation is already factored in and warranty for 3 years.

I guess it depends on how much the car will be worth in another 3 years time?

If you buy a new car now you'll have lost $65,000 in three years (basically a Platona + DSSD + change)

If you keep your current car for the next three years and it only loses you another $10,000 then you've saved $55,000 (in relation to your other choice above).

So in that situation the Platona would be free in the sense that you won't have to spend any more money than you normally would do.

Good luck
exactly, and more important my wife already agrees.

I ran it by her, and she said if i didn't buy a new car, I can get the watch.

There is some good logic here if you really think about it.

I think we are all pretty smart business people or most would not even be on this forum, but my Achilles heal has always been cars, the worst big ticket item to buy.

If I switch that sickness to watches, I will be way better off.

And don't feel bad for me having an older car, I still have 5 choices everyday of what to drive to work.

Best bet is to buy a new car once the ashtray is full.

The SL is still the current gen so go for it!
It doesn't bother me driving a 3 year old car, it bothers me when I'm driving a previous body.

This is me as well. I still have a year and a half until the next generation comes out Fall 2017, so I was happy with my choice in vehicle. To which three years from now when the CPO warranty lapses, I could get into a CPO of the newer generation body style.

This is exactly the reason why I only buy 3 year old cars, most that I have owned came off leases.

How many times does it take someone to take a 30-40% deprecation hit every 3 years before they say "jeeze, I'm tired of getting kicks in the twigs and berries"

No thanks, I like my twigs and berries

Nothing is free. Well, now that I think about it, I'm in Cancun right now and when I walked into my all inclusive resort the gave me a "free shot" of tequila. As long as I thought it was free is all that counts (in my book) anyway.

I totally agree with the CPO, as my 2011 e350 was that with 4000 miles. The warranty was even better than new as I think it was for 100,000 miles and 5 years. saved about 25%.
