Rolex dilemma 16710 vs new GMT

So I have a couple pieces on sale a Tudor BBB and a PO8500. Both lovely in their own right but simply too big and too thick for me.
I am more comfortable in the 40mm range even though I have obviously gone wider.

These days I am founding myself desiring more and more a 16710 in coke or pepsi.
I have a thing for GMTs and already own the ExpII polar (latest edition) . I also have a Sea Dweller A series circa 1999 in superb shape.

Soooo I am trying to decide between the 16710 and the newer GMT (the one w the green 24 h hand, more subdued than the black and blue)

I understand the movement has evolved, so has the bracelet and the case lugs have grown wider .

So what say you?

Have you tried on both? They wear differently.

I have not but suspect the 16710 wears sort of like the sea dweller and whatever the fancy name for the green hand one wears more like the exp II. I was planning on testing out the GMT this week end but can't test out the 16710 though

You're comparing the 16710 to the 116710.

That is a tricky one. I appreciate both era of watches but I'm a sub guy and for me the benefits of the 6 digit 114060 far outweigh the benefits of the 5 digit 14060.

With the GMT it's trickier for me. Th 5 digit 16710 get you a brushed bracelet, Coke or a Pepsi bezel options, and possibly lug holes. The 6 digit 116710 has the maxi dial/hands and ceramic bezel as well as an upgraded clasp with Easy Link but it also lacks the brushed center links and more interesting bezel colors.

If it were me and it were my only watch, or only Rolex anyway, I'd probably go with a new 6 digit model. I love the older ones with ththe Coke and Pepsi bezels but I like the 6 digits for a daily wear watch, the really stepped up the bracelet/clasp and I love the maxi dial.

If the Tudor BBB feels "too big and too thick" then i think you will be happier with a 16710. It's sleek and comfy for a smaller wrist. I have a 6.75in wrist and wear both but the newer case 116710 feels big and thick to me as opposed to the 16710 which is IMO perfection.

Your 16600 will wear much differently than a 16710 and even the 116710. Both of the GMT's will be much flatter on the wrist.

I've owned both, traded away both, but found that the 16710/16760 is my favourite watch. I just finished a comparison piece at https://www.minus4plus6.com/16760.php

I prefer the 5 digit reference GMT over the current 6 digit. I, personally, can't get over the cluttered bezel, but to each their own. While I love the 6 digit ref Sub the GMT's not so much.

Have both and you can't go wrong with either. My black ceramic sees more daily wear for the time being, and the ceramic watch is the better of the two for keeping its appearance despite the odd knock or two, but the bezel insert on the 16710 is easier and cheaper to replace without much problem if you do accidentally scratch it.
The Coke is a real beauty to behold. I never tire of looking at it. The LN ceramic is a classy looking watch as well.
In your position I'd probably go for the Coke now. Prices on them are still on the up and I imagine will stabilise around the £10k mark in the next three to five years, whilst the current ceramics are all depreciating, so grab a 5 digit now before they become unobtainium.

The 16710 wears pretty differently than the 16600. It's much flatter and the case/crystal are slightly bigger. It's much more comfortable.

Rolex dilemma 16710 vs new GMT

Agreed re upward move of the 16710.

I bought my 2007 Z series complete set coke model 18 months ago. I thought it was expensive at £4800 but it is looking like a shrewd bit of business now. Especially as it is my favourite watch!

Was in a similar dilemma when purchasing my BLNR, but the bracelet, the way the new case sits on the wrist, and the blue/black bezel made the decision rather easy. It's a more modern watch, and it definitely shows. Try both on.

Definitely try both, it I love the 6 digit. Just right amount of bling with the pcl's etc.

All subjective though, and if you can find at the right price there's little doubt that the 5 digit will hold its value well and prob go up.

Had a coke bezel 16710 for a while and I really REALLY liked how it look and wear. But then I start to miss the heftier bracelet of the newer model so I traded it for the hulk. I'd say I do want to regret it sometimes but the build quality of the 6 digits ref is so much more "wrist-felt".

They wear differently. I am lucky to have both. You need to wear them both a figure out which one sings the most

I own new references and the classics. The new ones are so well made, very solid feeling, with a lot of wrist presence, truly evolved engineering. If you are looking for something that looks and feels expensive, the six figure references are for you. I love that feel, and liken it a little to the present 991 series 911, which I also love. Great performance with an air of refinement.
With that said my absolute favourite Rolex is my 16710 (see the photograph below) it's not for everyone, it's light, friends tell me the clasp is tinny, and it rattles. Those same friends say the same about the 964 & 993, I nod climb in and enjoy the rattles!

If there can be only one, my choice would be Pepsi 16710. Second would be the new black bezel insert model.

I went with the older model primarily because I didn't want the PCL's and I liked that you could change out the bezel inserts. But other than that, I think the newer models are superior. The newer bracelets are head and shoulders better than the 5-digits

The modern bracelet makes this a no-contest for me, plus I love the ceramic bezels. You can always get the PCLs brushed (as I did). Oh....and those green details are wonderful.

16710 would be my choice.

Why?

Well:
BCLs
A more pleasant size and fit (personal preference)
On it's way to be a true classic
Vintage aesthetics + Modern efficiency and minimum service
3 Bezel inserts options that are quite easy to obtain.

5 Digit > 6 Digit in most cases

Thanks everyone for all the great comments.
I am leaning towards the 16710. Just the look of it does it for me I think. I have a good new bracelet on my exp II and experiencing the also good to me bracelet on my sea dweller. So while the clasp is a tad lame on the sea dweller it does not take away my enjoyment from wearing the watch. I would try to avoid thought the non solid end links.

The pcl is really not my thing but prob could manage it . Also to help put some context I am selling my Tudor BBB (in house version ) because it is too thick and I am afraid the 116710 will be as well.

Anyone want to sell a nice 16710 :)

I'd definitely go for old over new; I don't see the newer movement as much of an advantage. I like everything about the older models better. I'd consider a 16700 as well since the quick set date imho is a nice feature more so than having three time zones.
