Anything is possible. Maybe there is a paint variant within the dials or more than one location within the factories making them?

Going back to the early 2000's. Rolex aquired the companies that they were outsourcing these items from to bring them all "in house". It was in the bedding in of the processes where Rolex had some pretty silly things going on with dials which were never more evident than on the early 114270 dials and certainly not in keeping with watches at their price point. Fortunately experience showed that Rolex were prepared to bend over backwards to rectify the issues |

Good luck sorting this out. Let us know the outcome, if you don't mind.

Does the warranty card specifically read "D-Blue"?
Was the watch purchased from an authorized Rolex dealer? If it's an authentic D-Blue don't worry Rolex will stand behind it. |

I think it's a honest variation of the gradient dial. Yours and the others similar dials posted here show some consistency in its inconsistency...
On a macro/loupe level, I believe every gradient dial will show the black spots easier. It's a keeper if you prefer a bluer dial, but take it into RSC if you want some peace of mind. |

On a serious note, I actually like that better than the way it should be. Kind of wish mine looked like that. |

Apart from changing the OEM silencers on my motorcycles to race exhausts, I like things to be as they were when they left the factory and that dial would drive me bonkers.
It would be a real ballache but if it were me, I'd be taking a plane back to Sweden. I'm not suggesting that's what you should do but it's what I would do. I also know people who would think the dial 'unique' and keep it for that very reason. Here's a shot of mine. Good luck getting yours sorted.

I wouldn't keep it. Too blue. The whole appeal of this watch is how it moves from blue up top to dark half and half. This looks three quarters blue.

Here's mine that I bought two weeks ago. Yours seem kinda weird? If you didn't say it's from AD I would suspect it's a fake or someone did something to it. Hope it gets sorted out

I don't know if I like this "blue" feature. Going to speak with AD I purchased from, and RSC. Will post back soon. When looking at all the other dials, I kind of do like the more blue of my dial, but again, not right.

I’ve contacted the RSC and they told me to send in the watch. I spoke to the Official Rolex Retailer I purchased the watch from, and they told me they see the extra blue, they’re happy to help me to get the dial replaced, by sending the watch to Rolex. But they said it looks unique, and probably a more valuable collectors item. But again, they’re acknowledged the extra blue dial, and happy to get the watch to RSC.

All that extra Pacific Blue on the dial simply cannot tell the story of James Cameron's odyssey in the Deep Sea Challenger descending into the darkest abyss.Just imagine 20 years down the line, you're showing off your unique D-Blue to a bunch of kids asking them if they knew the meaning behind Blue-Black colour gradient Don't fall off your chair if some cute kid retorts "That's how the sky would look like to J.C blasting off in a rocket into outer space...!"

Maybe you can have them replace the dial with a correct one and get to keep the so called unique and probably more valuable collection item? Personally I would want the watch corrected to eliminate it looking like a fake. One thing you have going for you it makes a heck of a conversation peace. Good luck with your final decision.

I think they should compensate you for their error as well. A Daytona maybe? :)

Interestingly enough, despite the fact that this dial is most likely flawed/off-colored, I could see this becoming collectable in the future. Who knows? I could be totally wrong.

Man, I think you're missing a golden opportunity here. If you can get RSC to confirm is 100% original (documented) and that it's simply an "error", you've got something truly unique and rare. If it's been documented a few of these made it "out" so to speak, this could be worth a boat load some day. Think about it this way. Its already a low product, practically limited edition watch. What you might have is a unique piece that there may only be a handful of in existence.
The trick is getting them to admit its a QC problem, but once you do that I'd leave it alone and always keep the documented mistake. Also, to be honest with you, I think the extra blue looks kind of cool! Just a few thoughts. Cheers, J |

This is exactly what I was thinking. Rolex collectors LOVE any deviation from the norm as long as it's original. I think this is a huge mistake to get it changed. |

As said before, if Rolex says it is original; it could (note, COULD) become something unique and rare.
Think of the 'mistakes' of the Patrizzi Daytona, Cream Explorer II and Spider Subs... |
