Icon2 My new to me 16613...couple questions

Hey all!

Just signed up here today so please excuse me if this is the wrong section. I have been a huge Sub fan for as long as I can remember. My wonderful wife just bought me a 16613 and I love the watch. All she knew was that I wanted a two tone sub with blue dial/bezel and lug holes (very important for me, I love the look & function of the lug holes). She found the watch I wanted and surprised me with it.

Been on cloud nine since I got the watch on my wrist...then I started looking through the forum here and began to see pics of other 16613 and 16610 for that matter and started reading about chamfers, bevels, lug thickness, etc....and have been going crazy ever since

I feel like my watch's finish, edges , lug holes etc are just not totally correct. I have read about the case restoration work that places like ABC and Laww offer. Should I consider sending the watch to one of them? What could I expect from a service like that to the case? Any idea on approximate cost? Any well known case restorer on the East coast?

Thanks in advance for any and all feedback

Looks like a nice 16613.
Has been polished in the past.

Enjoy wearing it.

Have to agree, nice looking watch. Has it been polished? Yes. Haven’t most of this era? Yes. Off putting enough to do something about it? Not to me. I’d wear it and enjoy.

Thanks guys...so no point in messing with it then. I guess I'm just over thinking it. Keeping excellent time was just curious about case overall. Going to worry about something else..lol.. Thanks again

Very nice gift from your wife, needs nothing if it's running well. I will say on a used Rolex especially a sub I would put fresh springbars in just as a precaution.

Now you’re obsessing...

If they’re fat and solid looking just relax and enjoy your watch (and your wonderful wife)

Looks polished, but not too much. Think you have the wrong type springbars installed, they seem too long.

I once had this too on a Rolex, took out my Dremel tool! Fixed.

There are so many of these watches available I would find a better example (you'd find one here in no time) and sell this one.

I didn't really want to go that far...not even sure what I'd be looking for in a better one. I was really just wondering what I could do (if anything) to maximize the watch I have. Thanks

So far no one has suggested sending it off for a refinish.

After wearing the watch a bit more, I'm really enjoying the watch more and more. I think the only thing I'd really like to change is the tips of the spring bars on the 9 oclock side of the watch. They seem to be right on the edge of the case. How far inside the case holes are they supposed to be?

I'm going to order a set of oem spring bars to see exactly where I stand. The tips of the bars are inside the lug holes on the crown side of the watch. I might just file the tips of the bars and call it a day

Johny, or anyone else....just removed the spring bar on one side of the watch. Is there a way to tell an oem spring bar?

You're a lucky man to have received such a gift, the 16613 is a beautiful watch. For now just enjoy it as is (but, yes, do install some fresh spring bars). When it comes time to having the watch serviced, then you could consider having a "vintage polish" done in order to sharpen the edges, etc.
