Is it worth it to pay £2.6k extra for the 2017 Sea-dweller, SD43
Hi everyone
I heard that Rolex will be increasing their UK prices next year. Atm, the RRP of SD43 is £8,350, but it's virtually impossible to get one at that price. The cheapest I saw, BNIB on Chronext is listed at £10,970. Do you guys think it's worth it to pay that much for the SD43? I really think that they'll discontinue the red writing after Baselworld 2018. What do you guys think? Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk |

I don’t think so. Wait for availability to stabilize and the price will come down.
No one can predict the fate of the red text. Keep in mind the GV crystal was originally supposed to be a short lived novelty. |

I love the watch but would never pay that much over MSRP for it while still in production. MSRP in Canadian dollars is $13,000 but the prices you've seen come to over $19,000 CAD. The green on Submariner watches was at times thought by some to be coming to an end. Only Rolex truly knows so don't believe everything you hear (especially from people selling watches, including AD's).

Look if you have money to wipe your business with than go for it. Anyone who really values their money paying that markup is whats known as a sucker. Right now if I see one in the wild the guy is either fortunate or said sucker.

No.
This theory that the RED SD text will be discontinued next year is unfounded. There were some Greys in the UK hyping this on Youtube and I thought it was irresponsible jibberish. |

Totally is. I remember the buzz when the original DSSD first came out. As time went on and more were produced things became more stable. Rolex can play all the games they want (I love the brand) but production isn't as limited vs. Audemars Piguet or some others. With that in mind, there's absolutely no way I would lol.

The watch is gorgeous, but no. I own it and paid retail at the AD.
Paying over list on the speculation that red lettering will turn to white is a bet I wouldn't make. Paying retail in the hope red will turn to white is a punt I took. If it happens, great; if it doesn't, not a problem. Win-win. |

Sounds like you are making a bet, and why not, its all like the stockmarket now anyway, so if you think the red will be discoed then worth buying now.

This model isn't even 12 months old, Rolex are yet to make tens of thousands of these Red SD's so just be patient and you will get one at the right price.
Patience and Red SD obsession don't go well together, so it is going to be painful, kind of like trying to lose weight but having a block of chocolate put in front of you. It takes will power to retain one's composure to achieve the end result. It doesn't seem fair....

All this hear say stories about price increases, discontinued models etc. are utter rubbish, if repeated often enough some will believe and justify paying over MSRP.
Rather silly in my book, amusing for sure Rolex does not disclose any such info and never has. Only valid reason for paying more is if you don't want to wait

Earlier in the year, it seemed like there were going to be plenty of the new SD's...they were rolling out at a good clip and there were incomings galore. The price on the secondary market quickly stabilized to just a smidge above MSRP (here in the states, anyway).
Then...boom. A sizable chunk of the steel models, to include the SD, stopped coming. Vanished. So...what does it all mean? Who knows? I tend to believe that the supply train will start churning next year, and then you can get one closer to MSRP. But...I can tell you with absolute certainty that is pure speculation on my part. |

I have one which I bought at £8350 but there's no way I would pay another £2600.
I would consider an extra 10% (or one future price rise) as fair. Or if I was desperate 15% which would be my upper ceiling. But it's your money and therefore your choice. |

In the UK, LVC Subs are currently on offer in the grey market at between £8,500 and £9,250. And Rolex have made thousands of those over many years. New list is £6,600. I'd say that 126600 are harder to come by right now than LVCs are. If that continues, then there's no reason to think that, in the UK anyway, 126600s will not continue to command significant premiums. Of course Rolex may decide to step up production of the 126600 (perhaps unlikely if the Subs get the new movement next year?) or the £ may strengthen and watches become more readily available in the UK (highly unlikely in the face of Brexit) or the status quo may remain. Personally I can't see 126600s becoming that much easier to come by in the UK in the next couple of years in which case prices will stay high, irrespectve of whether the red text is retained or not. If the red text is discontinued, £10,970 will seem like a bargain. But that's a huge "if" So, OP, how much do you want one now, rather than having to wait?

They are available for under USD 14.7k on this site and others! Don’t see much going for under USD 12k though, even used...seems the SD43 has gained a little more momentum lately (nice Instagram campaign by Rolex)...but overall, doesn’t look worthwhile paying more than USD 1k above the USD 11.3k retail at the moment...

In the Uk Grey market prices have been slowly but surely creeping downwards .
One of the very first in the UK was sold by Blowers at not much less than £16K . An outlier for sure but many followed at anything between 13 to 14 K You can find some now sub 11K |

Your money to spend. I personally would not pay a premium for any modern, in-production Rolex. At most, MSRP plus taxes for LNIB if I really want it.

Order one through your AD. Then just wait. Your life won't be any better with it on your wrist now. You think it will, but it won't.

Definitely wouldn’t pay a premium.
I have seen one of these in the case at Daytona beach and other members have seen them in the case in Europe (Italy if I remember correctly). Maybe do some research and talk to ADs outside the UK and use what you’d pay as a premium to fund a holiday to pick it up ;) |
