Seems pretty unlikely given the place that the Sub has held and still hold in their range.

That is impossible to imagine. I don't see how it is possible.

I agree with most that this is next to impossible, but then again anything is possible. If you look at the original post over on WUS the OP was stating his AD was referring specifically to the 114060. Could I ever contemplate Rolex discontinuing the modern evolution the original sub? Just cant see it. BUT

Platinum ND Sub offered for the first time?
Could the 114060 be the first getting the new movement?

These things could be possible. Who knows what Rolex will do? Fun to speculate a bit I guess.

2017 will forever be remembered as the Submariner's final production year.

If ANY subs are sold in 2018, I will leave the forum forever. That's how confident I am.

Thoughts? Opinions? Has anyone here also encountered these rumors?

Cheers!
Well IMHO like many today they often talk through where the sun dont shine and talk like the gif below.

If you look at price vs. inflation, Tudor already is Rolex of yesteryear. A Sub 40+ years ago would be about the price of a Black Bay today, and a SubDate today is near the price of a gold President 40+ years ago, which is likely why we see so many Sub users these days worry about damaging their watch, despite its intended use. They’ve become pretty expensive.

I suspect that the new Submariner will be bigger than the ones now on the market and carry a new movement. Thus, they are withering from the shelves. Of course, it's just my imagination.

Crazy talk! To discontinue the top selling luxury watch in history would be ludicrous. Rolex is a marketing marvel and true visionaries, however, that is not their vision....I can assure you!

It's likely all my fault; in one of my weaker moments I asked if Rolex could get away with dispensing with SS and going only PM. It was just a thought experiment. Many took it very seriously. At any rate that thread is linked below. I very seriously doubt Rolex would consider doing that for a second. This is likely the result of the lack of Christmas watch availability and over active imaginations and perhaps forum to forum cross fertilization. As far as being an idiot is concerned; not hardly. Merry Christmas time all.

The chances of that are slightly greater than all Day Dates going forward being made from plastic.

Slightly.

Yeah I also read on the internet that the steel from Rolex is causing radiation in the skin thus leading to skin cancer. So therefore no more SS models. It "HAS" to be true

Word on the street is that the 2018 sub will only be available with a pink bezel.

So you’re saying to buy only pm models? Gonna call my wife up now to justify the purchase!

Rolex will only discontinue something if they feel like it is not financially worth it it produce that watch anymore or if it’s hurting the sales of another watch, or if it is a strategic move to increase the sales of another watch. Why would they mess with their best selling model, other than to upgrade it?

My AD was telling me about this one, going to be called the Pink Panther.

I've already placed my deposit.
