Crazy Japan Daytona prices

Andy Chan on Instagram posted this from a trip in Japan last month. I know Japan has a fondness for the Daytona models but this is really crazy.

Is this a hint of what's to come in the near future if Rolex doesn't release inventory to the ADs?

Crazy stupid money they want for them at the greys here.

This makes me hopeful I will be one of those guys on an episode of Antiques Roadshow:

"I bought this Rolex...I know mine isn't gold so it's probably not worth much.."

"Well lucky for you Rolex stopped using steel in 2017."

This is Rolex's way of turning common steel into gold!

Seriously though, those prices are ridiculous.

Daytona is but one aspect of crazy Japanese Rolex pricing.....every sports model from greys are through the roof....don't even get me started on the vintage.....that's why it's been a lot of window shopping for me and I've never bought yet whenever I visit.

Even for me who’s got 3 of those SS Daytonas (down from having 4) I think those prices are non-realistic ....

At the beginning of the year, the consensus (at least on this forum) was that all SS bezel models would tank spectacularly. Seems quite the opposite.

Most I've ever seen for a Daytona, almost $30,000. Now I could fund a pretty nice trip to Japan if I could sell mine for that. I'm pretty certain that they sell for less than the advertised prices however.

If the real issue with Rolex is lack of planning for the demand then production will now have been ramped but the supply won't come as a tidal wave but more as a steady stream. No reason to expect a huge release of watches at the beginning of the year unless Rolex is truly playing games with the demand.
