rolex is growing on me

I always had a dislike for rolex. I thought of it as a flashy/snobby/overpriced watch. I had my sights on other watches like omega, panerai, and zenith. The entire time however i always wanted a submariner. I had a love for dive watches and the sub seemed to be the best dive watch for the money. I said it would be my first and only rolex I would buy. 4 months ago I started my search and was in the market for a submariner. Although on my quest I fell in love with the Daytona. Not realizing the market I thought I could just walk into an AD and buy one for msrp. Boy was I wrong. So back in september I pulled the trigger and bought my first rolex a submariner.

Now I have a new found love for rolex . I went from telling myself I would never buy a rolex besides the sub ND to planning my next rolex purchase. Now my list stands at 3 watches I want:

Submariner (Sept '17)
Daytona-C Black SS (???)
GMT Master 116710BLNR (???)

when will this bug stop?

On a positive note, watch for an incoming soon :) Need to make the trip to the AD to cross one more off the list ;)

I was also aganist Rolex for quite a while. Didn't like the brand image, the cyclops, the negative reputation that goes along with owning one.

Then, one day I switched my thinking and tried on the Sub Date, I was hooked. I did more research and felt like I "had" to have this watch.

It is now my favorite watch to wear, and I would never get rid of it.

Congrats on your first!

I am still kind of against the cyclops(screams flashy to me), and wish the BLNR was available without it. At least my sub is without cyclops

Your first question the bug won't stop at least for me .. As far as the next I know you have a BLNR but a 16710 or 1675 I think you would love especially with all the different inserts you basically get the looks of three watches for the price of one.

Well done, I too had to get over the stigma and appreciate the watches themselves, then I joined this forum...

OP I think you will find there are plenty of us who started out the same way, me included.

I started at 21 with all the other brands and a dislike for Rolex and what they stood for. Then I wised up and eventually had a look and I was hooked.

Good luck on curing you obsession, you will need it as it is incurable in most people.

Once you get past the brand name you get to the heart of the watch

I too had prejudices against Rolex for many years. Too many people I worked with wore them strictly as showoff accessories - a few didn’t even set the time or date! And they wore them so loose the watches would rotate around their wrists completely like a decorative bracelet. So I wore Omega Seamasters for decades. Then I saw the GMT Pepsi on Magnum PI and fell in love. Dithered about ponying up the $$ for it over several decades, hemmed and hawed about a 40mm watch on my 7 3/4” wrist, and bought a DSSD instead. Didn’t like the DSSD and traded it for the GMT2 Pepsi early this year. Ahhhh!!!

Lots of snobs wearing Rolex.

Just as many looking down their nose at those wearing them.

Bottom line is that they are good watches.

Black dial daytona looks great!

I feel that a lot of people who really appreciate Rolex also had the same thoughts before purchasing their first Rolex.

It's kind of like taking the red pill in the Matrix. The world is no longer the same!

I used to think of Rolex as stodgy, dated, an "old man's watch." But when I started earning a living and having a little expendable income, I developed my own sense of style and came to appreciate "nice" things. Knowing how much work it takes to afford a thing makes me think about things like value and quality...and Rolex is without a doubt, quality.

As for the cyclops...I'm at an age where I need it on my watches that have a date...you know...to see with...haha.

With the Sub and BLNR a white dial Daytona would fit the bill.

Congrats on your first.
