Almost New SS Submariner

I am looking for a first Rolex for my son (who is hopefully graduating college) and narrowed it down either a SS Sub or a GMT.

My AD is telling me that he has a No-Date Submariner that was originally sold in March of 2017 but never picked up from the store. The papers have been executed however. He is asking $6500.

What does this fine community think?

I think it’s a very good price. You’re getting a technically brand new watch for $1000 less than MSRP at a time when All SS is going for (or close to) MSRP
good luck

Sounds like BS to me.

A - What kind of idiot AD would fill out paperwork before watch was picked up? Every AD I ever purchased from fills out warranty at time of sale as it takes 2 seconds.

B - Rolex policy allows unworn watches to be returned to AD within 30 days. AD's can return those warranty cards to Rolex and Rolex will issue them a fresh warranty card.

To me, sold means paid for. Who would pay for a watch and not pick it up?

Regardless of what story they’re spinning you have to look at it as buying a used watch. Is $6500 a good price for a used watch? Seems fair if the condition is near mint or better.

Sounds like they're leaving something out, but $6500 for a SS Sub is a good price even if it's been worn for a year.

That’s a good price. Bought mine at 6700$. 9 months lost in warranty period is negligible assuming it was activated on March 2017. Still you have a plenty of warranty time.

Take note also that nowadays SS submariner is hard to find.

Yes, if it has stickers on then go for it. If not then the story is dodgy and I would inspect the watch carefully first, could have been worn for 9 months.

I looked though my sources and that is a fair/honest price. I would green light that Rolex purchase.

6500.00 on a near new watch seems like a pretty good deal so long as nothing else is wrong with it.

+ 1

Add-on: the price is not bad, but it looks like the AD is not telling you the whole story...

I'd make sure that the recipient really wants that watch. When I graduated, all I wanted was cash, cash, cash. College grad, which means probably buying a new(er) car, finding a place to live, maybe relocating, buying furniture. He needs a couch, not a watch.

OP, bring to AD a timegrapher and, if an accuracy and errors within acceptable limits, buy
I'd be suspicious about movement issue as in the thread below

https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=562681
Also bring a loupe to check if all indexes is alligned, no dust on dial etc.
