Need to vent

Just tired of my AD. I have spent good money there 50k-100k in the last 5 years. It seems I get little to no respect.

When I ask for a hot item -
"sorry, there's nothing"
"Nope can't do it"

Would it be so hard to say
"you will be the 1st/2nd/3rd person we reach out to"
"We will call you as soon as we know"

It seems they play favorites, and I'm not one of them.

Sorry rant over.

I am sorry to hear that. If you look to improve your luck try Trusted Sellers here on forum. Good deals and better availability.
Or change for Panerai.. upsss

Maybe if you changed your name to bigcollector, it would get you more respect.

I'd say it's time to have a conversation with a new AD

sounds like you need to find a new AD, since you're current AD doesn't respect you as a customer besides taking your $$$.

Sorry to hear it. This is all about the experience and if it's going to be like this with them it makes sense to take your business elsewhere.

sorry. I feel that dealer see VIPs are the ones that spend $50k+ a year. Or you really need to get to know the owner or store manager. Dealing with a regular sales person, I don't think will do much. Try smaller dealer, may have better luck.

Regardless of the level of product, customer service seems to have gone the way of the dinosaur. I have seen it too many times to be surprised by it.

When I've ordered watches not in stock at my AD, I've stated a willingness to pay up to 50% up front.

That may not work in today's climate, but it has always worked for me.

In all but one case, my AD worked with other ADs to come up with what I wanted at the time.

The other case was just a matter of being at the right place at the right time with a bundle of dough, as they were expecting one piece to show up in the near future. They were right and I was very lucky and very happy.

You spent $50-100k in 5 years. I know down to the dollar what I've spent in the last 5 years at the AD. I've spent exactly $0. Find a Trusted Seller here and never look back!

50K in 5 years is not much against many spending five times that and more, and as these get harder to find the VIPs prefer them to more expensive complicated pieces so its a vicious cycle. It might sound curt but many ADs are tired of endless enquiries and placating and false promises, so are just abruptly honest now.

It is like waiting in a long line that's not moving much. You already wait a long time and moved a few spots. Do you want to try a new line and get all the way to the back, hoping it will move faster?
I bet OP feel that he has spent 100K and "tried" building a relationship with this awful dealer for 5 years. Does he really want to start over with a new dealer that may or may not treat him well? I feel you... but like everyone said, this dealer doesn't deserve more business from you. Find a new one. Good luck.

I spend a decent amount each year but live in an area with many tech giants, famous musicians and professional athletes, so know I can't complete with them on their capacity to spend. I have a great relationship with my AD, though, because I refer new clients to him regularly and support his business through other ways besides direct spending. Because of this, he was able to source a BLNR for me in a matter of days a couple of months ago and always calls me when something on interest comes in (Hulk, Daytona, etc.).

I'd be a little pissed too, but please check your wallet because a $50 - $100k ballpark is a pretty big spread. Maybe your tab at the AD is in arrears so they're giving you the cold shoulder?

Find a new AD. Plus let’s say you spent 75k over 5 years which equals to 15k a year. I think you be surprised how much might spend at AD to receive VIP status etc. Maybe you just aren’t on their radar, or they are just being honest.

Maybe that well has dried up and it's time to dig around someplace else.

I've bought from various ADs, so I don't have a loyalty to one. Never been "in a relationship" or "it's complicated" with an AD. Never felt the need to establish a connection with them either. Buying from an AD is overrated.

I've bought second hand units from friends, fellow collectors and pre-owned watch sellers, and I've found these transactions to be so much simpler and easier (of course, they gotta be people you trust).

You’re in the Midwest. Who’s your ad? I may be able to recommend a new one.

It’s sad, but people have got bigger issues than that. You are still privileged compared to many.

The AD I used was pretty clear straight up. They told me that I cannot get a Daytona. Period! They are telling me this as I am wrapping the purchase of the LV. Oh well. Also I wasn’t invited to your their VIP gathering. I know I am a small fish.

When I ask for a hot item -
"sorry, there's nothing"
"Nope can't do it"

Would it be so hard to say
"you will be the 1st/2nd/3rd person we reach out to"
"We will call you as soon as we know"

It seems they play favorites, and I'm not one of them.

Sorry rant over.

Cherish the honesty.

If you are looking for a “hot” model at this point, you’re likely 25th on the list and the AD probably has zero visibility into when they are likely receive enough pieces to satisfy those people who signed up first. I’m not sure that an accurate answer of “we’ll call you sometime in 2023, which is when you might manage to make it to the top of the list” would be any more satisfying than the response you received.

The alternative would be that they bump a bunch of others down “the list”...which happens and incites similar customer annoyance

I agree with others here who suggest going to a TS here. You may pay more on a particular watch, but if you’re spending 20k per year, you’ll likely come out even or ahead over time financially (less Diet Cokes from going this route, though)
