Sub (126610LN) or Sea-dweller (126600)???
Looking to purchase my first Rolex.....HAPPY :) however, I am completely torn between the Submariner date 41mm and the SD43.
I understand it comes down to personal opinion, but what’s the general consensus? Apologies if there has previously been similar posts which I imagine there will have been 😬 |

Its your call. I have looked at both and went down the SD43 route. Its presence to me stands out and because of the balance of the watch it fits well even on a small/medium wrist. There are pros and cons ie the Sub is lighter and case is thinner but the SD is thicker and heavier so its all about personal preference. If you are getting from an AD there is a considerable price difference which also may affect your decision,

Try them both on and you will know. I do like the red text on the SD43.

No hesitation, SD43.
Being your first Rolex, you might be tempted to go with the staple Sub. However, the SD43 feels more special to me and has more of a rugged and purposeful look to it, which I prefer in a diver. The SD43 is badass. |

The SD43 is the more "special" watch with it being an anniversary edition and the red writing and much less common in the wild. If you have a larger than average wrist size go with the SD. A 7"+ wrist size works best for the SD43 IMO.

SD. don't let the "43" paper spec scare you away. It wears so much better than most other 43mm watches.
And the red text on the matte dial is really pretty. |

Seems pretty one sided. Not had the opportunity to put the Sub 41mm on my wrist but have with the SD43 and I did get that kid at Xmas feeling.
Think I’ll pull the trigger on the SD43. Thanks folks |

I have run into countless sub wearers. I have yet to run into anyone else wearing an SD43. It’s the best watch I’ve ever owned.

Welcome to the forum OP.
To me it depends on whether it’ll be a one and only daily wearer, vs one you wear in rotation. I love them both, but for daily wear I’d choose the Sub all day long |

SD43 Two Tone FTW.
I dont dwell upon two tone divers except that one. It makes me melt. Too bad I can't own one. |

If it's your only watch and will be your daily wearer, I'd personally go with the Submariner Date.
Then again, I wear my Sea-Dweller 43 more than any other watch in my collection, including my Submariners!

Try them both before you commit, I went with a SD43 over the previous Sub but haven't tried the new one yet.

That’s definitely an advantage with the SD43, a nice to know, but it would definitely be a keeper. It pains me to see watches being bought and immediately put on sale at a premium.

I’ve been trying to find an AD who has a Sub that I could even just look at in person as a comparison but I’m getting the feeling I’ve got more chance of finding rocking horse shi......dung haha.

It would be a daily wearer. The SD43 did not feel heavy or look oversized on the wrist so think it will be a good option. A colleague has the James Cameron, I know it is 44mm but it seemed considerably larger. |

I think we'll see the SD43 carrying on with the red lettering until the actual model is discontinued. I don't have sales figures at hand as Rolex won't publish them, but I suspect the SD43 is successful enough to continue being made a few more years. A clear sign of its success is the lauch of a spin-off two-tone version ref 126603.

The sd43 imo is an excellent piece but only for those wrists that can handle the bulk and weight. You can wear the sub all day long but for me the sd43 is just too heavy for every day, all day use. I still love it tho!

SD43 by a country mile if you have the wrist to pull it off.
