An interesting gold speedy

Preface: So, this is a big post for me, I have most likely cemented two watches permanently in my collection. I’ve wanted a Hulk for quite some time, however, until recently, I did not find a good opportunity to purchase one. In the interim I had a beautiful Seamaster Master Co-Axial in Sedna Gold, along with a Blue Gemini IV Speedy Pro tribute. However, an opportunity presented itself to get a wonderful hulk at a decent price and I could not pass it up. After this I was in a conundrum, in my 3 watch collection 2 were divers. I just felt like this was a bit repetitive for a small collection. I did love the sedna gold of the seamaster and the speedmaster though, so I had the genius idea….why not combine them!

Enter the Speedmaster Moonwatch Master Co Axial Moonphase in Sedna Gold( Ref: 304.63.44.52.01.001). This has everything I could wish for, sedna gold, large, sporty, yet still very classy looking in my opinion. A chrono with a vertical clutch, column wheel, auto winding and 60 hours of reserve and amagnetic. My favorite part of this is that it’s a “moonwatch” and also being a moonwatch with having a moonphase, layers upon layers. The only thing missing is that it’s not a pro, and it’s not derivative of the watch that actually went to the moon, but I thought I had 2 speedy pros before, and one day will definitely have one again, so why not try something new. As I’ve seen other people put similar cool speedmaster variants, this is like a love letter to the professional moonwatch and nasa missions, a beautiful tribute.

I was deciding between this, the FOIS in sedna gold, and basically the same version of the watch in “orange” gold with no moonphase. To be honest, the subdials can be a bit crowded and they are a tiny bit harder to read on here compared to the other versions, but everytime I see that beautiful gold moon I know I made the right choice. It’s keeping great time at just under +3 seconds a day. I plan on getting some aftermarket straps, maybe one lighter and one darker brown gator. I already have the dark side of the moon cordura strap which I bought for the seamaster, I like that look too, makes it a bit less dressy. I did try on a golden brown gator strap that I think really works, can’t use the omega deployment with it though so I need to go custom or get factory straps, limits the options a bit.

Let me know what you think, this is definitely “grail” material and might be the highlight of my collection for quite sometime or possibly ever.

I have to say that is a watch that's never been on my radar before but it is really stunning. I prefer it on the Black croc but like all Speedmasters, they go great with so many straps.

It’s absolutely stunning. Wow wow wow!!!!!!!!!!! That movement!!! Brother well done. I’d love to see a matching bracelet for it too. How sick would that be?

Sharp! It almost looks nautical. Reminds me of brass sailing instruments

I do like that on the stainless versions its a photo realistic moon on the moonphase, that's special in its own way. Love the blue version.

That looks so sharp on the black gator strap. Really love it! Can I ask how you like it on your wrist so far? How is the size and thickness working out for you? I continue to be very close to pulling the trigger on one of these.

It is quite tall, but wears pretty comfy. Even though I don't have my old speedy pro anymore, I'd say it wears pretty similarly besides being a bit thicker. My wrist is about 7.25 in I'd say, I'd definitely recommend having a wrist of 7in or more for the right look on a wrist.

Thanks for the feedback. Any chance you could post a pic on your wrist looking down from the arm? Like a profile picture of it being worn? Curious how much it sinks into the wrist vs how much it stands up.
