So many GT3s! I am currently in the exploration phase for the 997.1 vs 997.2 GT3. Any recommendations for one mark over the other?

Comes down to preference. I like the look of the 997.1 GT3 better as I prefer the aero kit on it vs. 997.2 which is why I went with one. Both are great cars with 997.2 having some subtle upgrades such as the 3.8L and revised suspension for more neutral handling (997.1 can be tuned the same with a GT2 rear sway). 997.2 has minor interior changes such as a black centre console instead of the grey/silver and of course the LED tail lights.

I own a 997.1 GT3 and love it. The 997.2 is improved on suspension and bigger engine. Both have issues with possible coolant pipes. They need to be pinned or welded. The 997.2 had 1 more issue with possible cam actuator bolts backing out. Styling is personal taste and like the 997.1 better, but still like the 997.2 as well.

Thanks all for the comments on the 997 GT3. Last question before getting this topic back on track, for you that have drove both a 997.1 and a 997.2, was there one version that you preferred from a driving experience? Was there a meaningful difference in the “pull” from the 0.2L displacement increase or a more “planted” feel from the revised suspension? I think I prefer the 997.1 aero styling better and definitely prefer the more analog interior, amazing how quick nav can look outdated.

Do any of you subscribe to 000 magazine? They had a great article in the most recent issue on the development of the 996 GT3 and has great article in issue 3 on the new 991.2 GT3 as well.

Yeah, definitely secure the fittings if taking them on track.. I personally prefer welding, although it has to be done right.. difficulty is higher if going this route. The shop that did mine pressurized and submerged in a water tank for a day to make sure there's no leak, etc.

That’s because most people don’t know what gt2rs is capable of.... lol

But, yeah, 993 is lovely and a definite eye-candy for those of us who are nostalgic.

The 997.2 is a superior car. Per many owners who had both the .2 is more planted cornering on a track. The .1 is more raw and twitchy. You have to be a serious driver to push either car to the edge and feel comfortable. On my test drive of the .1 the owner took a 90 degree turn at like 60. The car never even made a noise. I about sh*t myself. I have yet had the balls to even try something like. I value my toys. The .2 has more power so it should feel slightly faster. Most people like the looks of the .1 more, but that is totally subjective. One day I plan to put a 4.0 in mine when I need a rebuild. No matter which you choose the sound is glorious from about 5k to red line. I put a center delete on mine so it screams.

Here is my 994 c4s which is a totally different driving experience. Significantly slower, but extremely fun to drive. They make a wonderful pair.

**excuse the messy garage. Just put in the AC in the wall a few days before and didn't have time to clean it before the picture. Looks slightly better now, but I use my garage. Evidently I have too much stuff I don't want to throw away.

When I was younger, I drove a hotcammed and modded 6 speed 1995 camaro z28 pushing ~340rwhp. I didn't believe in luxury watches. I couldn't understand why people would pay so much for a porsche when a corvette could go "faster" for half the price. Seemed like people bought porsche without even knowing what a dohc vs pushrod was; just wanted the badge. And spending more than $100 on a watch seemed stupid to me.

Now that I am older and (hopefully) wiser, I find myself a huge fan of two brands I've loathed growig up. I realize these brands are so strong and popular because they've earned it. I am a true believer now despite becoming the "douchebag" I always looked down on. Have never been so happy to be wrong :) (it was actually a friend's 1991 acura nsx that tore me out of my straight line rut)

Don't get me wrong, I still love a nice corvette; but with porsche and rolex there really is no comparable substitute!

Hey now, some of us aren't complete bigots ;) I love the 996, it's what got me hooked on porsche!! Had a 2004 c4s too and that thing was bulletproof, ims be damned! (seriously its a cheap retrofit/fix if you do it while doing the clutch and rms).

Love the 996s. Theyre so small and svelte/light now too compared to the 991 - a nice "raw / pure" watercooled 911 :)

edit: my old 996 c4s! (didnt have a rolex at the time). i still miss that car - the c4s hit the perfect point of performance/cost; sometimes i wonder if my 991S is worth the premium over the c4s that I had just as much fun in!

Thank you for your impression. That is quite helpful! Looks like I need to just get some seat time this spring / summer to make a decision.

Love your 964 as well. That is where I hope to end up one day; with a gt3 and a nice Carrera 3.2 as the counterpoint.

Great looking cars all!

Like I always say "There is no cheap Porsche." The 996 is still a Porsche but not my cup of tea per say... great engineering except the IMS issue... looks are subjective.
