Exactly. Had a friend who dropped his fairly new YG Submariner. Watch was losing 8 minutes a day. He sold it to a well known grey dealer without disclosing the issue. Deal went through and the grey dealer never circled back with him, so I wonder if they even noticed the issue before selling it to the next guy …

I wouldn't call watchbox/govberg a "well known grey." I'd rank them right next to Jaztime & Bobs.

I'd push to get your regulation reimbursed (can't be more than $200 max, right?) At least your watch is genuine so you can sleep well at night.

After that, forget about the warranty and wear the heck out of it.

RSC doesn’t recommend regulation. I’ve already shipped the watch into RSC Dallas and they recommend a full service.

Makes no sense for the RSC to say that. If it is less than 5 years old, they need to be more specific about any damaged parts. The interval for overhauls on new movements is more than 4 years.

I am sorry for your trouble with Watchbox - they have a very checkered past. Some love them (give 5 stars) others give 1 star.

Not to dog pile on WatchBox frustrations, but I have tried to sell and trade watches to them a few times. Each time the deal fell through because they would literally just stop responding or not respond at all in the first place.

Thanks for naming Watchbox here. This could help others who search for WatchBox as the thread will return the result.

I hope you get this solved quickly from Watchbox. Let's see how they handle it.

As more and more of these problem movements get recycled through the second hand market we're going to get more and more of this. Sad times.

This is a 114060 originally purchased at an AD in December 2018 according to the warranty card.

Part of the reason I bought it second hand instead of going through an AD for a new one is that I have a 126711CHNR that I bought in May 2019 which started losing 20 spd and spent Nov 2021 - March 2022 at RSC.

So I was trying to avoid a problem movement, ironically.

Wow that's disappointing. I hope Watchbox makes things right. The situation with the CHNR is unfortunate but it's always better to buy from an AD

Let us know the outcome.

It's very unlikely that RSC would just regulate the watch without insisting on performing a full service, particularly if someone else has been in it. My bet is a full service and around a $700 bill.

The upside is that I believe it will have a 2 year warranty after the service.

I don't know what extent of "work" they may be doing but it is possible at least some of them can be considered by RSC that they were left with an evidence of third-party repair attempt...

Polishing the hell out of them to make them retail ready. They all have identical processes. If it’s brand new unworn, posted immediately. If it’s vintage and running well, they post it. Everything modern gets polished unless it’s something really special. Unless it’s brand new unworn, it’s been polished.

I can’t imagine watchbox paying for the service. I bet they offer to service it for you and send it back, or full return. Almost $800 for a service could be the majority of their margin.

I think you’ll be ok op. Everyone has a bad experience one time and retailers, even Rolex ADs, aren’t infallible.

Lots of Watchbox info here.

Op. I am sorry to read about your experience with watchbox/govberg. When inquiring about watches on their site in the past, I was led to believe they send Rolex and Patek to Rolex and Patek for inspection prior to sale. It is upsetting to read that a Rolex AD can sell a Pre-Owned Rolex that was serviced by non-Rolex authorized watchmaker. Does watchbox have an after sale warranty?

Ah sorry just assumed.

Hopefully you get at the full serviced covered by your grey dealer and you get to enjoy a rock solid movement for a long time.

Cannot speak for Watchbox, but many used dealers put a watch through a thorough timekeeping test to include PR. They could not offer their inhouse warranties if they did not do this. This takes a week or so. Plus, they will usually polish the hairline scratches off which are so shallow little, or no metal is lost but makes the watch look unworn and easier to sell. Used watch dealers use to openly discuss the fact they lightly re-furbished pieces for sale.
Maybe not so much anymore, but I suspect most do it. How else can there be so many used Rolexes for sale with no marks whatsoever on the PCL of the clasp?

RSC has voided the warranty and they say the watch needs a full service.

I have dealt with watchbox and found their service to be exceptional. Their prices may be a bit higher but when I had an issue they went above and beyond to make it right without question. They also offer their in-house warranty.

Similar happened to this guy with a Lange. It's a long and boring video. Cole's notes: AD had a local watchmaker open the case, he pinched a gasket, it was later sent back to Lange, Lange could tell the case had been opened, voided the warranty, AD eventually paid for it.

I hope you get the issue resolved. Unfortunately, I think Watchbox has already shown you that they don’t care with their lack of response. Good luck.
