lol
imagine, trading in your 16570 polar to a grey dealer above its retail price vs rolex taking in your 16570 polar for way below retail because it doesn't make sense for rolex to sell above retail pricing (smacking themselves in the face)

who are you going to sell to? lol

Most likely by a new list price increase, to current grey market levels.

they probably buy out of warranty pieces.
but nobody is going to sell them below retail.

maybe its good for out of warranty 4/5 digit references datejusts. those are generally below retail

can they sell a refurb 5513 (with their warranty card) at retail with this program? lol i will be up for 1 but the list is probably 50 years long

if they are going to sell above market, i don't see a point for this program. by going to service your rolex and flip it, you get the same warranty period, unless you have missing papers.

lol. as long demand > supply. whatever they charge, grey is going have it even higher.

the game starts from AD, if AD starts giving out watches like candy, the market will naturally die down. if AD are the ones hoarding the stocks, the market is going to stay the same, unless for a complete collapse of the economy and every single one of us stop buying, then yes, you will see them appearing in the cases.

remember, ADs are the ones holding all the cards. not the consumers, not the grey markets.

I'm pretty certain watches will go for market price. Note there are different market prices for how they're sold. To a company is one price, to an individual another. From a company another and from an individual another. Pricing also depends on the watch. I can't see a 12 series black Sub and an OP36 going for the same relative pricing. The hotter the watch the higher the mark-up all around.

if rolex is selling those refurb pieces above rrp aka market price, then its pretty dumb.

they forbid AD from selling at market prices but yet they can, i am sure there will be backlash on them

If you can't beat them, join them, I guess. At least Rolex ADs will have something to sell now.

Rolex ADs in Hong Kong - all 60+ of them - have never sold used Rolex watches as far as I know, so it will be interesting to see if they start now, and what kind of age we might be looking at. Vintage?

https://monochrome-watches.com/indus...ned-programme/

Rolex Certified Pre-Owned watches will initially be available at Bucherer boutiques in six countries (Switzerland, Austria, Germany, France, Denmark and the UK) from the start of December 2022. Other Official Rolex Retailers who choose to be part of this programme will be able to do so from spring 2023. The Rolex Certified Pre-Owned Programme equally concerns modern pre-owned watches and vintage models.

Thanks

I wonder if every watch will have to go through Switzerland first, or the AD's nearest RSC, to get certified.

I think the programme if done correctly will be great for people who want a peaceful and uneventful transaction of pre-owned Rolex. The only question I have is whether one can only sell a watch back to their original AD that they bought the watch from or whether one can sell to any Rolex AD? In the Monochrome article it stated that it only concerns watches bought from AD but all watches come from AD isn't it, even those from trashy grey market dealers? so how does this CPO buyback programme works?

I wonder if this is the reason why just last week, they just refused to do the service on my Dad's untouched, vintage 1985 GMT unless they basically sent me back a sanitized version of its current state and replaced every part that made it vintage. (hands, dial, bezel, etc. I of course, refused their service estimate and told them to send me the watch back untouched.

No, that’s normal.

You go to the store that has the watch you want, pay for it and take it with you.

Could also be a race to the bottom as greys undercut Rolex preowned and Rolex undercuts back. Good news for people buying to wear.

Perhaps Adam they will start by selling the display only pieces through that program as the first step?

Despite Rolex is a foundation still is not there for charity hence price will be market.

AD will have those special Rolex pre owned BUT they shall buy somewhere( Rolex doesn’t has a stock) and that is from the market at the market price.

Let’s say that AD refuse to buy at market price: they will not get any watch.
People will sell to gray and grey will sell again to people because still supply from AD is short.

If you want to lower the secondary price you can increase supply or indirectly kill the demand. (The latter is what USA make recently like provoke war, financial crisis etc etc for profit btw). Basic rule.

So my bet if true: It will all balance for the good of Rolex, AD and grey dealer with grade 1 used Rolex certified and grade 2 grey dealer certified.

All this discussion doesn’t make sense at all anyhow: we are talking about luxury goods that respond to Veblen rule. Hence are not for everyone

From a market perspective, I am not sure this is much different than a watch with a recent Rolex RSC service card.

I wonder, will CPO sell watches with the original warranty papers/cards if available or will they trash those and just issue their new CPO warrant card?

If so, for collectors the watches with original papers will likely be priced higher. While the Rolex CPO will be a place to sell watches that would otherwise have been “naked.”

I would suggest keeping box, papers and the original receipt handy in any case...

A lot of US ADs (Tourneau/Bucherer) already sell used Rolex, I guess just now they will come "CPO" with the Rolex CPO card.
