Absolutely agree. I love the 16600. I wish I hadn’t sold mine. I told myself I would add it back later but later hasn’t come yet.

I agree. I had a 16600 for about a year. I really liked it. It was that little bit more special than a Sub of the same era. For sure get one sooner than later.

I had one... sold it last year. I bought one again about a month ago and love it. It's such a killer watch and the prices are great. It has the heft with a vintage vibe of the older cases. I don't understand how they are not more popular. I wears smaller than a modern sub.

Couldn't agree more! Got mine earlier this year. Had no intention of getting it. I went to a used watch market here in Seoul just to look around to see what the dealers there had.
Came across this, tried it on, and instantly fell in love with it. It was even perfectly sized for my wrist! After some haggling, walked out with it on my wrist. |

Little bit of insight from someone who bought their first Rolex in 77 and saw the undervalued gilt radiun gloss subs at auctions in 80s going for MUCH less than later ones - buy a tritium version which will age over time. They will be between 50-100% more valuable than post 2000 Luminova versions in 20 years as Tritium become the delineator like gloss/gilt/radium and matte/white/luminova is now where the former are roughly twice that of the latter.

Haha. Something about Brian’s, we are to irresponsible to be entrusted with 16600’s. One day….

This is the watch that started it all (WIS disease) for me in 2003. Sadly I sold it to fund a Deep Sea, which is also gone. I now have a 50th SD with no cyclops that is the perfect Rolex SD in my eyes. Proportions, details, bracelet, red script, etc. are perfect for me.
I do wish I had kept that old K serial Sea Dweller though. I would have it on a NATO or Rubber B I think and use it all the time. GREAT GREAT watch! |

Congrats, OP. The SD was what started me down the Rolex path, and has been a daily wearer for 4 years now.
I keep thinking about letting it go....it rides high, and isn't nearly as comfortable as the GMT on a jubilee. Then I read threads like this, pull it back out, and fall in love all over again. Quote:

When I got my 16610 in 1997 I could not understand why anyone would want that huge thing and pay a premium for it over the Sub!

I love it so much that I've created a group of SD 16600 fanatics.
It has been with me since 2010 and of the many watches I have owned, it is MY FAVORITE Hope you find one soon

The original(s) did not; Rolex could not get the adhesive to withstand the pressures at the lower depths. With the 50th anniversary release, they were able to overcome the technical challenge, and add the cyclops they always wanted. |

The 16600 was my first Rolex all those years ago. Purchased new from an AD.
Did everything with it, including scuba diving. Recently had it serviced and gifted to my son. He loves it and I feel great knowing that he is enjoying wearing it. |

We got talking watches at the post drinks and he wanted to try my Snowflake on as he was intrigued by its reputation and titanium, (said he had not seen one before) so to be fair I tried on his Sea-dweller. We were both impressed. I am contemplating adding a new diver to the collection (not a Rolex) but this watch was everything good I remember about Rolex. Size, fit, no Cyclops and the bracelet was actually OK. Now contemplating getting this very watch. |

The SD 16600 and its magnificent history, the search for a more resistant watch that would exceed the 300m threshold. of the Submariner.

I ran out of patience with getting a 124060 at an AD and bought a 16600 instead. Absolutely no regrets.
