It is supposed to be light blue, but still I would go Patek also.

Oh of course it’s subjective and personal opinion. Please take in context with the post I was replying to where somebody couldn’t fathom how another person would choose “just a Rolex”. We all have our own unique style and taste which is what makes life interesting.

Neither

I do not care for either one especially at those price points

Daytona. The Rolex over all just has in my option a more classic rugged sports watch sort of look. As mentioned by someone before the Patek looks kinda effeminate in comparison. Granted I voted for a watch with a turquoise dial, but I feel the contrast on the Daytona is wonderful with the brown.

Also something that is just my own opinion is that I have never been fond of any watch that is square shaped in any way. I think they are just generally ugly.

Apples vs oranges....
As others have pointed out,....
Daytona...heavier , thicker, more robust (subjective), and more of an everyday wearer with a single complication.
PP ...on a strap, more elegant, totally different shape, color, and weight, with a few complications.
What look and purpose are you after?? I’d choose solely on that.
If it’s a one and only... neither... if in a collection, depends on what else you have.

Anyone picking the Platona needs to really re-evaluate. You are paying a lot more money for a blue/brown dial and platinum material. The same exact watch in SS is $12K. The PP is leagues above the Rolex and worth the price.

5711/1R vs Platona is a better comparison

A platinum Nautilus would be equally more expensive than the SS Nautilus. Nobody needs to re-evaluate their own taste or style.

Personally I think the watch with wings and dated east coast 70’s style is not attractive for my wrist.

My point was that you are strictly paying for the material being used. A SS 5712 is still far more than a SS Daytona, and for good reason.

But it depends what you’re looking for in a watch. If you want a watch for special occasions only, like fancy dinners with corporate people in suits.... get the Patek

But if you want a watch that you can throw on, work on the garden, work on the car, go hiking with, go running with, go swimming with, take the Daytona.
This sums it up nicely

I had the choice between the Patona and most Pateks. I chose the Platona as it could be used in all circumstances. The wife did not like the 5711, so that was that.

I am not a huge fan of the 5712R either, primarily since its on strap only. However, that is a pretty unflattering photo OP posted.

I like Nautilus on a bracelet only.

Better:

Nice, but you aren't going to wear that strap in a chlorinated pool or the ocean. Bracelets > Straps

This version comes with leather and rubber composite straps.

Is a 5711 close to any Rolex is durability?

I saw a video in which Aurel Bacs describes the 5711 as a watch SUV

I agree that it looks great in different occasions, but it looks a little delicate compared to say, an Oyster perpetual, or a Datejust

However, I’ve never handled one

(It wouldn’t be fair to compare the 5711 to a submariner or anything too sporty)

You can get a composite strap.

If you only have one watch and it needs to be one you can jump in the pool with, I do not think either would be an option. Both of these, in my opinion, are ones you would add to an existing collection.

Platinum Daytona.

To me, the Daytona is much more pleasing to the eye. Also, I am not a fan of sport watches on leather straps.

Platona

Nautilus needs bracelet. I think a SS 5712 vs 506 would be closer poll

Platona and any Rolex is far more versatile and rugged and that's why I own them devil may care, the Nautilus I do wear selectively and as a bit of a treat. Best to have both, a Nautilus as a daily would drive me mad as I hate a marked up bezel, bracelet I don't care.

Head to head, this Daytona definitely wins. I prefer other references in the Nautilus line.

This was a question of opinions and my opinion seemed important enough for you to go to the effort of replying with an insult. I'll just respond by saying to my eyes it's a minty greenish-blue and at the risk of offending you again, I must say, I still don't care for it. It's Patek for me. Cheers!

Supposed to be is right.

I'm not against Rolex and own a number of them. I also know this is supposed to be "ice blue". Seen in different lights, I've noticed the blue looks more like mint or aqua. Aqua is defined as a mix of blue and green. I'm just not a fan of of that or any shade of carribean blue no matter what Rolex calls it. Now the true blue of the DJ sunburst dial.. that's nice. Cheers.

Exactly this. Currently own a Platona, have in the past owned the 5711/1A, 5712/1A, 5726/1A AND the 5800/1A (wife's Patek). So I keep trying to love the Nautilus! But those delicate bezels and lack of clasp microadjustment continually sours me on the line. Platona goes everywhere without me giving it a second thought.
