I find this happening very regularly....
Type out a post....click on SUBMIT REPLY....and then see if you have the bloody patience of a Saint!!!
It then takes forever for the post to upload. Today, I clicked on SUBMIT REPLY and made myself a cup of tea before the post went through!!! JJ

Seriously though, there are times when I experience the same thing. It probably has something to do with the phenomenal growth of this board, and that a lot of members are logged in and active when your slowdowns occur. At least, that's MY take on the problem. Perhaps Steve has some additional insights.

Guys, the internet can be a funny thing. You see, most people do not realize this but when you click a link here, it has to go though some 15 hops (goes through some 15 or so routers) to get here. Sometimes there is congestion on a router to here from JJ, but not from me, or DSJ or Prince etc., etc., as we all take a different path to get here. If you would be so kind to perform a trace route I can show you what I mean. In WINDOWS:
1. Start > Run and type 'CMD' (no quotes) 2. In the dos prompt type 'tracert rolexforums.com' (no quotes) 3. Once completed right click the TITLE bar of the dos prompt > edit > select all > copy 4. Paste the results here. If you are on an Apple (OS X) as I am right now, simply go to the Network Utility and run the trace route. Here is mine: Traceroute has started ... traceroute to rolexforums.com (67.43.0.254), 64 hops max, 40 byte packets 1 192.168.1.1 (192.168.1.1) 1.745 ms 2.165 ms 0.821 ms 2 adsl-69-231-239-254.dsl.irvnca.pacbell.net (69.231.239.254) 8.422 ms 7.657 ms 9.063 ms 3 dist3-vlan60.irvnca.sbcglobal.net (67.114.50.65) 9.322 ms 9.945 ms 8.884 ms 4 bb1-g2-0.irvnca.sbcglobal.net (151.164.41.221) 8.354 ms 8.483 ms 8.975 ms 5 ex2-p14-0.eqlaca.sbcglobal.net (151.164.191.75) 9.635 ms 10.381 ms 9.632 ms 6 gar6.la2ca.ip.att.net (12.122.79.105) 8.890 ms 9.788 ms 12.077 ms 7 12.127.3.206 (12.127.3.206) 65.299 ms 65.303 ms 64.924 ms 8 tbr2.sl9mo.ip.att.net (12.122.10.13) 65.780 ms 65.879 ms 65.587 ms 9 tbr1.sl9mo.ip.att.net (12.122.9.141) 65.056 ms 65.317 ms 64.975 ms 10 tbr1.dtrmi.ip.att.net (12.122.12.185) 66.837 ms 67.186 ms 65.569 ms 11 gar3.dtrmi.ip.att.net (12.123.139.137) 65.199 ms 65.446 ms 65.106 ms 12 * * * 13 lw-core2-ge2.rtr.liquidweb.com (209.59.157.34) 81.298 ms 79.210 ms 79.749 ms 14 lw-dc1-dist1-ge2.rtr.liquidweb.com (209.59.157.14) 79.186 ms 79.467 ms 79.004 ms 15 67.43.0.254 (67.43.0.254) 80.782 ms 79.867 ms 79.094 ms As you can note, hop 12 for me basically timed out, this should be another ATT hop... this timeout creates slowness from me to TRF at this point. It is not slow though for me at all but should there be no timeout at hop 12 it would be even better. Sometimes a router goes down between YOU and the web destination you wish to go to, making it seem like the site itself is down when in reality it is not, it is a router somewhere that is borked. |

JJ's not exaggerating... I question his euphemism of 'making tea', however. We all know what he was really doing...

You know guys Scott (nikhsub1) is right. For the information to go around the world, there are heaps of gates and routers for which it must pass, there will on occasions be some technical problems that one cannot readily resolve.
However, by and large the response time of the forum for posting messages is very fast. So please be patient. Sometimes, if the forum is not going fast you just need to give it a little time for the connection to 'heal' or recover. Nevertheless it is always interesting to hear your comments and advices which are most welcome

Seriously, I've been stalling and timing out on occasion as well. Seems random but persistent when it happens. If I walk away and come back later, things are normal again. It could be a connecting point but it's hard to know what's stalling. This problem does roughly coincide with the forum software upgrade. On other forums using the same software, there's a good indicator at the bottom of the page showing the performance of the database like this:
Page generated in 0.23261 seconds with 9 queries [Output: 124.47 Kb. compressed to 120.34 Kb. by saving 4.13 Kb. (3.31%)] When the database itself is having issues, the .23261 seconds becomes something much larger. It's a good way for users to know if it's their connection or the forum database. I don't know if you've disabled this display intentionally but it may be something that could be helpful when trying to figure out what's going on... Certainly not complaining by any means.

I can only speak for myself but I have elevated procrastination to an art form... Besides, sometimes slow is a good thing...

I have had on the rare occasion a delay.
Did you time the delay, that's where your watch might be useful. If you consider this over the 1000's and 1000's of posts you have made and the 10,000's and 10,000's of posts made in total, you will find that the efficiency of the forum is 99.999+% The forum does require maintenance from time to time, and we do work on fixing problems. The forum does cost time, money and human resources to operate, so patience is a fairly small ask of that virtue to exercise in these isolated cases.
