Cars that don't have limited slip differentials, only one wheel has to spin. Also it is likely that they were coasting in neutral on a very slight down hill grade.

I always use a torque wrench and tighten the lug nuts in a crisscross pattern. I wouldn't let those amateurs work on my car, that's for sure.

There is a very strong centrifugal force. It's easier than it looks although not recommended if you don't know what you are doing.
