Maybe 126710BLRO bezel color is spot on with 6542
As I was rewatching the antiques roadshow youtube video with the man auctioning off his Rolex 6542 and learning that his GMT Master is worth over 60k, I realized his bezel color is pretty much an exact match for the new pepsi bezel.
So it seems Rolex has the bezel colors spot on to hearken back to the original 6542 GMT. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Something about that bakelite that's beautiful. Kind of adds a warmness similar to plexi compared to sapphire crystal.
Though I agree, I'm quite happy with the ceramic pepsi colours. Those that want a bit more pop on the bezels can always go with 16710's. |

Spot on match to the Bakelite bezel was not by accident.

Definitely not. But we have been reading, ever since the release at Baselworld, that the pepsi colors are way off. I just felt this was the only reasoning for it not matching the 5 digit pepsi gmt colors. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Bakelite was a very early form of plastic and they were not used very long with Rolex, Bakelite ages quite quickly and the vintage watch in question when new the colours would have been totally different much brighter to the one in picture. The very first production GMT 6542s had Bakelite inserts now these inserts were quite fragile and prone to breakage. And some of these inserts and small number of watch dials were over the new AEC radiation rules so had to be withdrawn by Rolex, and the inventions mentioned in the Rolex recall letter not 100% true .

I love the new colors. They’re easy to bash if you just want it to look like a 16710. But otherwise it’s easy to love.

not sure what the fuss is all about. if you do not like it do not buy it. if you like it buy it. seems like demand is pretty high for this bezel color combo.....

I know We all perceive colours differently but to say they’re the same colour as the Bakelite... errr, okey dokey.

Before dismissing the OPs point, we have to consider the patina on the bakelite. Maybe brand spanking new it'd be a match. Its nice to see the early model next to the current one. Hell of an evolution.

I've seen many older bezels (AKA faded) sold for huge amount. As ceramic won't fade, maybe we were treated and got a "faded" ceramic pepsi . Now, next year, Rolex will listen and correct the red to an absolute red.. it means current pepsi is "the rare MK1" ... :-)

Funny how (in my opinion) Rolex made a better looking watch fifty years ago.

This quote. Almost prophetic when read two years down the line! Will be interesting to see where the value of the MK1 heads in the coming years.

To me, the Pepsi is all about the 'pop' - as amply demonstrated by this fine Mk 1 specimen. It harkens back to the glory days of travel and flash Italians along the coast. The later versions of the 126710blro bezel unfortunately look too dark for my liking - although perhaps play off better in a more formal setting.

I’ve always believed that especially after I compared my BLRO to my buddies Bakelite. Just like I believe the Explorer 124273 TT 36 is meant to harken back to the Explorer gilt dials.
Here’s my Mark 1. Cheers. |

Except the bezel was so inferior it degraded after a short time. Owners were not happy. Sales plummeted. That’s the reason they went with aluminum. And when Rolex discontinued the Pepsi in 2017 it was not a big seller. How times, and the Pepsi, have changed.

The 126710 is a very nice watch, but the bezel colors just ain't right, even on the first version. Much prefer the four and five-digit GMTs.

Never seen a 126710blro I didn’t like, every version is super but the early ones, I and II, are my favourites.
