Rolex movement 3035 magnetized?

Im just curious I have a rolex 16800 with a 3035 movement... Is it possible this movement can get magnetized? I don't know if it's a regulation problem or magnetized but if I try one of those blue boxes that demagnetize will it hurt the watch?

Most watch movements can be magnetized, including the 3035. You cannot harm the movement with a de-magnetizer.

Yes virtually all. Even the Milgauss isn’t 100% resistant to magnetism. But, it's still very cool how Rolex encased the movement in a brass inner casing. One graced our workbenches a recently. Always a treat to see them when we get a chance.

Was your watch on a winder? Many less expensive winders can magnetize a watch....

Wow lucky you! I've never had an old Milgauss on my bench, and if one comes in I probably won't be the one repairing it.

I did service the modern Milgauss a few times, but that isn't the same of course.

I was not aware that a winder could cause a watch to get magnetized.
Thanks for the heads up.

My understanding is that the less expensive winders can magnetize the watch, at least according to a Rolex watch tech:

The blue box demagnetizer isn’t big enough to demag a whole watch. You’ll need a grobet

So, do we have a final consensus that it’s OK to try to demagnetize ones own watch?
… That no harm can come from it?
I was just given a nice looking little unit and I thought I would try it on some of my Rolexes. But I certainly hate to cause harm, if that’s possible!
Any experts out there ?

AND, .... big shout out to Rolliworks!!

I take my service needs to Authorize Rolex Service in San Francisco. The nice people there (Giovanni) said fabulous things about Rolliworks, especially for bracelet re-servicing! Don’t you love it when businesses speak well of each other?

Thank you for letting me into this wonderful family !!

I doubt you could do permanent harm, but those "coil in a red/blue box" demagnetisers need to be used fairly carefully if you're to avoid making the magnetisation even worse.

They simply put out a 50 or 60 Hz (depending on where you are) alternating field. Key is not to switch the thing off while the watch is close, as it can pick up the last magnetic impulse and be affected by that. What you're supposed to do is keep the button pressed, and slowly and evenly draw the watch away from it - some say a couple of feet away over a 5-10 second period.

Personally, I'd get a watch repairer to put it on something like an Elma Antimag, which does it all automatically and pretty reliably by a single button press. If they have something like a Witschi Telascope, that will measure magnetisation, remove it and then measure again to be sure, even better.

Seems like it is subjective but I have been demagnetizing my watches for years and I have had no issues. I actually go to Homedepot and run them over the security scanner at the check out counter.

Had to demag my GMT after installing a magnet strip on one of our work benches. It was worth it. Too many tools cluttering our work surfaces.

Carefully with those small blue demagnetizers. I’ve seen used watchmaker demag tools sell on ebay for under $40. Its a safer choice.

Esslinger sells a small blue one on their website

Rolex movement 3035 magnetized?

Its good for demagging tools like carbon steel tweezers, screw drivers etc where precision and control isnt as important. A butter knife vs an exacto knife.

I think you were going demag a movement one axis at a time it should be a quality unit. The larger demag units, demag the entire movement at all 3 axis.

Ive had my day date 3155 magnetized once it was delivered to me by airmail. Running like crazy. But a simple demag did the trick at a television set repair service
