I would get the DJ too. After wearing it for a while, if you're still pining for a sub, get it then. But the DJ is classic and is a little less to worry about on the wrist than the sub.

Personally, I would much prefer the sub as an all around, everyday watch. I don't care for anything under 40mm, on any wrist, just looks too small in my opinion..... but that's all it is, my . Get what you like, who cares about strangers on the internet

Although I’m a DJ fan and have one myself, based upon your description I think the Sub is the better choice: athletic build with a vocationally active lifestyle. Sometimes in relaxed business attire (I assume med consult style), but often in scrubs. I just think that you’ll wear the Sub more often than the DJ. The DJ will really stand out when wearing scrubs. And even though you’ve been attracted to the beautiful DJ for a year, the Sub has been on the radar for so much longer.

Since your wrist is 6.5 mm, I recommend a 5 digit Sub vs the current 6 digit offering, it is classic and will wear perfectly. Best wishes

+1 on a 5 digit Sub. My 14060 is very slim and comfortable. Try using WatcRecon to see what is available and this forum to learn who the reputable sellers are.

The 114060 works for me and love it! But I can see with a smaller wrist it is not an ideal. The ceramic is amazing, can’t look back! Thought about this again, buy the datejust now and put your name on waitlist for new sub. Should be best of both worlds for you, that new ceramic sub look with maybe slimmer lugs. If it comes out and not a fit for you, get the 5 as was suggested.

DateJust or Sub both are good, just pick the one you like most.

I have 6.5" wrist but I prefer 40mm more than 36mm, I would go for DateJust 41 instead of 36.

I would seriously consider a 126200- no fluted bezel to keep it low key, and oyster bracelet makes it more sporty.

Given your wrist size, I don’t think you’ll be happy with a 114060 as a daily driver. I’m speaking as an owner of one, currently looking to acquire a DJ36 myself in the near future for greater comfort.

Started of with 36 OP. Loved it all the way. Wore it everyday as my work watch. Had few compliments, but not much.
Finally got lucky and got Sub date few months later., and now I can’t take Sub out of my hand. Got a lot more compliments on the Sub for sure.
You are going to end up buying both, so buy enjoy one watch, and put your name down for other.

I feel like the DJ36 is perfect size for my wrist, but the configuration I love I worry will be too flashy for daily wear.

What would you do in my case?

I think the DJ 36 is the perfect watch for you- timelessly classy, perfect size for your wrist (my wrist size is 6.5+ish as well), it won't get in your way when getting around corners w/the endoscope - the Sub definitely will, you definitely need a date as a doc (at least I do/did- I probably check the date dozens of times a day (possibly just a reflex when charting/writing Rxs)), it works with scrubs, dress shirts & suits (of course) & the blue dial/fluted/jubilee DJ36 in white gold/SS is IMHO the perfect configuration.

I wouldn't worry one second about it being too flashy (possibly a different story in YG), and I think it is a perfect "only watch".

For me, this is a no-brainer, & The Sub will not (ever) scratch the itch for the DJ (& vice-versa, btw), plus, you can wait to see if the lugs are slimmed (as is rumored) when the next Sub comes out (or go for a 5 digit later).

Looks like a very common situation. 2 years ago I had a similar dilemma. Always wanted a Sub, but got amazed by DJ 36 (116234, blue dial, flitted, on jubilee). In 1.5 years I bought a Sub (114060). I love maxi case and in fact Sub get more wrist time than DJ now. DJ now is more like dress watch for me, while Sub is GADA. That said, my wrist is 7.5. And I still love my DJ

I wonder what the real diameter of the 36 is? I had a DJ41 and it wore small. Some on the forum measured it and it was 39.5. I would try the DJ on you want, remember there is shrinkage.

For soundness of mind you can always try on a PM sub just to rule it out size wise so the allure of photos doesn’t make you doubt your choice.

1. Discuss watch dilemma with AD (aka "shared decision making") at new practice location. You'll spot other watch enthusiasts in the med staff lounge who can refer you to their AD if you're moving to a new city for practice.
2. Buy DJ WG/SS on Jubilee (Don't ask for discount)
3. Later thank AD profusely; but acknowledge that you're self conscious about the WG bezel at work (in scrubs) and wonder aloud if you should've gotten the sub...
4. Reach out to AD in SEP if/when new Sub is released - and you'll soon have a dressier DJ watch and a GADA Sub to pass down.
5. FYI: Enjoy along the way. Your first paycheck will make you cry when you see the tax withheld. And after you're blessed with marriage and kids, every dollar will be earmarked for mortgage, loans, car note, private school / 529, 401k, Disney, etc. - and dropping $10k on another watch will feel frivolous... Spoiler Alert: But eventually you'll flourish at work, the kids and 401k will both grow, and the AD (at this point having sourced Valentine's day, Mother's day, Birthday, and/or Xmas Jewelry for you) will conspire with your partner to get you a Grail watch for your mid-life crisis b-day.

Congrats on your fellowship. I just celebrated paying off my Med school loan with a sub date. Ironically, I had my eye on a TT DJ all through Med school, residency and fellowship (rheumatology) though I changed my mind over the last 5 yrs or so to the sub. But my wrist is 7.5 if that matters and I like the sub date (like you, I need the date for work). The DJ you mentioned is beautiful and I think you’ll love it. Enjoy!
