When my wife purchased my Explorer from the AD for my wedding gift they made her pay for the extra link that I needed. $60 if I remember correctly.

I wasn't happy about them making her pay for it, but we have no relationship with them other than the 1 purchase,

I have been wondering this, seen a guy picking up his GMT from an AD, it was way too small! The AD had to order in extra links, not sure if he had to pay??

Doubt it. Now the AD may eat that, if they are dealing with a valued customer...

AD can choose to cover the cost or make client pay.

Omega provided the extra links while fitting the watch when I bought a Seamaster long ago. I don't know if Rolex allows their ADs some latitude to provide good customers with free links during fitment.

If a watch bracelet needs extra links when fitting the watch at an AD I would only buy the watch if they supply and include the extra links needed for free.

Especially when they don't give any discount on the watch I think the margin made on the watch can pay for the extra links needed.

Some Boutique will give you free instead of other free gift like the watch winder. I think it depends on your relationship with them.

This is what I think also. I was just thinking there might be a hidden agreement between the AD and Rolex that allows the AD to charge Rolex back for the link on a new sale.

I totally agree!!! I know on this forum we have a lot of Rolex fanboys who seem to think Rolex can do no wrong, but give me a break. Good business practice would be to ensure the watch fits properly for the buyer. If that means a link or 2 need to be added then I am of the belief that it should be handled by the business, not at the expense of the buyer. Without the buyers spending their money you'd have no business...let's not forget that!

Usually not, unless they like you, a gold link can cost £300 plus.

UK AD last year provided an extra 2 jubilee links free of charge for a friend of mine, he also got 5% discount on the watch, a DJ41, for himself and DJ28 for his wife. Also got a watch winder and two umbrellas too

Purchased Batman last August and needed two links which I paid for--$140. And I am a good customer at this store. Luckily didn't quite need a link extension for my DeepSea Deep Blue as I only have 9" wrists.

Im thinking the AD can charge Rolex back for at least one link. You cant expect the customer to pay to have the $15,000.00 watch fit them. If the AD tries to charge you for extra profit I would tell them sorry no sale then see what happens. The AD will try and charge you no matter what until you refuse to pay for the link. Trust me that link will be free if the sale hinges on it. I still have to think Rolex will give them at least 1 courtesy link free even if the AD denies it.

pretty unreal. your buying a watch at RRP, they should at least sell you a watch that fits.
how about making every watch with extra links so you go home with 2-3 extra links.
in this case they can reduce sizes over and over again. make you pay extra, obv nothing crazy when ur buying a 10-20-50k watch, whats next? you need a crown on ur watch to set the time thats a extra 500$, clasp is not included extra 1000$

Check the price of a solid 18k gold link. $449 for a used solid 18k GMT link.

"Rolex" is not selling the buyer a watch, the Dealer is. Rolex does not, and should not be expected to, provide a box of widgets just in case a buyer wants something in addition to their purchase.

I do believe that the Dealer should provide any extra links at sizing before the watch goes out-the-door, but some do not. They make enough off the sale to be able to toss in a link or two for the odd buyer who needs it.

Just got an OP39 and needed two links added, paid $65 each, which is fine with me. I have a big wrist and like watches on the smaller side. Sub fits me fine out of the box but OP39 not so much. Was happy to pay for the extra links I needed as I really am likely in the extreme minority on needing them on this watch.

My AD had them in stock thankfully so no wait time.

When purchasing my son a GMT earlier this year we asked for an Extra link for free, all we received was a Sneer and a dirty look. Good old Rolex AD's.

Omega on the other hand are brilliant, I bought a MOTM and it was only slightly tight on my wrist, not only did they give me a link for free they sent it to my home FOC.

Maybe next time don't order some overhyped watch sight unseen from a mail order stranger and expect it to fit properly. That's what the AD is for: trying and buying in person to nip potential problems in the bud.
