What do you think of this 16030?
Hey all. In perusing the classifieds I came across this 16030 that looks too good to be true and was interested in your thoughts.
https://www.rolexforums.com/showthre...ighlight=16030 No way a 32 year old watch looks this good without polish or replacement parts, right? - The case has to have been polished, but holes look deep and the brush lines are great. - The bracelet has no stretch - Does anyone know what the "K12" stamp means? Also, I thought these bracelets had a coronet stamped next to the part number? - Is the dial a service dial? Are the hands correct? |

It has been prepped for sale obviously, but it looks ok to me at first glance. The clasp looks ok to me, and you can find everything you need to know about bracelet codes in the Rolex Reference Library forum (teach a man to fish ...). I'm not 100% sure the bracelet itself is legit; I'd probably want a closer look at that having the watch in hand.

I think the watch looks great. As the saying goes, buy the Seller. I don't know the seller and have never dealt with him, but a quick search on Who's who reveals only positive reviews for Boris (luxurywatchbuyer). It seems like a fair deal for a beautiful watch. I'm no expert, just my 2 cents.

Looks really nice actually wether it was touched up or not & that clasp code does just about match with the watch (K = 1986). Clasp codes can be 1-2 years deviation from the actual year of the watch from my understanding. I say go for it.

It’s definitely been polished but appears to have been lightly touched and restored. Nice step dial. Overall nice DJ. Price seems fair but, as others have said, buy the seller. I have not had dealings with the seller so cannot offer anything in that regard.

It's not a step dial (aka pie-pan), nor should it be for a 5-digit DJ.

Looks nice not over polished but has been prepped as stated. Clasp looks good as long as date code matches.

Correct me if i'm wrong but it appears to be a service dial to me because its 'T swiss made T'.
Can't say much about the polishing but when a vintage piece looks this good, it's probably polished. That said, polishing might not be a bad thing, do you want a dirt-filled watch or a nicely cleaned up one? RSC polishes the watches that are being serviced unless you tell them not to. With the crazy expensive equipment at RSC and with skilled hands, it's literally just microns of metal being polished off. I would want my watch to look beautiful, not all banged up. Just my 2 cents :) |

Great feedback all, thank you. I pretty well agree with the sentiment about wanting a clean watch - you guys pretty well confirmed this example is sharp. I do wonder how much of the watch is original (service dial, replacement band, etc.). Obviously nothing in here about the service history or how it runs. I would normally have my watchmaker inspect a piece, so that’s that. Now it’s just a matter of the world climate. Seems insignificant to purchase a watch when there are much bigger problems in the world.
Appreciate this forum and the expertise provided. Stay healthy all. |

See my my (former) DJ below from 1987-88 (R-serial) with original dial and "T Swiss Made T" at the bottom. There are always problems in the world. I'm trying to stay as "normal" as possible amid the craziness, and if that means reading about vintage watches, and maybe buying one, I'm going to do it. |
