Precious Metal in Hot Weather

Those who are fortunate to have a precious metal piece on bracelet, how does it feel in hot weather? Does it feel less comfortable than your stainless pieces?

I'm just thinking out what it would be like to wear one in the hot, humid climate that I'm in and wondered if something weighing the better part of double stainless' weight would be more/less/the same with the comfort. I know fit is key, but as a hot-natured person, I wonder if I'd ultimately find it to be something that would have me avoid wearing it. Perhaps I'm overthinking!

No discomfort during hot weather months but it is heavier. The metal itself is not hotter. The main difference would be when I run with my watch and you can definitely feel the weight of PM while you run.

Gotta ask - what PM are you running with?

I don't workout with my SS watches, let alone my DD40. I've got a $20 Timex for the gym.

Precious Metal in Hot Weather

I don’t have a PM watch, but it’s not the weight of the watch that’s an issue in hot weather. For me, it’s leather straps. If I’m outside in the hot summer sun, I definitely prefer metal bracelets. Rubber is okay too.

Many PM pieces. Wear them in both cold and tropical climates and enjoy them. Glide locks are nice. Day Dates not as fun in hot weather because if the bracelet fits perfectly in moderate temps or indoors then it may likely get tight outside when you get warm. They really need to add 5-10mm of adjustability to the presidents.

Otherwise the weight isn’t an issue. I love a heavy PM watch. Feels like something is there. I’ll never go titanium. Just feels wrong to me.

This is how I feel as well. I have only owned PM about a week, but the weight and heft is almost like a comfort and security blanket. For those of you that prefer a lighter watch the new titanium YM should feel great, wear it in good health, but I like the heaviness of gold.

You are overthinking it. I wear my PM watches in a hot weather area year round and they feel great! Of course they are heavier but that’s a great feeling!

I don’t notice any discomfort compared to SS.

All fine. If you have easylink and the bracelet is setup so you have a good fit with a little movement with it closed, when it gets hot, easylink works perfectly.

I like the heft. Only time I wouldn't wear it is if I'm going for a long walk in the hills or on the coast. Just use a blackbay or something then.

Just wore my WG Sub 41 all week in FL on spring break. Laps in pool, walks with wife, playing with kids, dogs, etc. It was perfect and no fit issues.

WG sub works great because of glidelock
DD40, can get a little tight sometimes, but usually don't wear it when I'm at a pool etc with the kids.
RGYM40 on OF - the summer time winner for me. The OF keeps it light and most comfortable for me when in really hot temps and pool with kids.

As Ken said, you are definitely over thinking this. It's no different than any other watch. My PM sub feels no different as far as temperature than my steel subs.

I don’t notice any difference but not having any micro adjust or quick extension on my bracelet can be annoying when it’s not.

I don't own a PM watch but you can always put it on a Everest or Rubber B strap!

Gold Sub on a rubber strap is the heat!

Live in Puerto Rico (USA, Caribbean) which is pretty humid and warm / hot all year and never had issues with my DD, but it’s not a daily piece. Like Ken said think you are indeed over thinking it !

Precious metal = being heavy
It is just uncomfortable when it is a warm and humid day.

PM has to be properly fitted. After that, comfort should be no issue at all for most folks.

Not sure about PT but my WG DD40 feels warmer to the touch when you're wearing it v. SS. It's not enough of a difference to matter, though, IMHO. It goes to Maui with me every time.

No difference from SS, just heavier. And PM has a delightful heft to it.

In my experience, warmer weather tends to hold a heavier watch in place better due to a bit of moisture on the skin than cold where it seems to slide around more.

This is the most honest answer in this thread. The lack of adjustability can lead to discomfort as your wrist swells, depending on when/where you got your bracelet fitted. Finding the perfect fit, ala glide lock, is also more difficult.

I notice no difference in heat with PM.

Rolex in the gym….Sometimes when I vacation I roll out of bed and into the gym with whatever watch I had on the nite before. I was just in Vegas and one
morning had my 16808 on when I looked in the mirror.

You guys now have me really thinking on a gold Sub for the glidelock! I’ve pretty much now ruled out the DD.
