May enter the Patek club. Advice?

First, thank you to all of those who contribute to this great forum. I'm thinking of getting a new 5524r from grey as my first and maybe only Patek. It's also my favorite Patek. I'm glad that this watch isn't so popular, as I would be getting a ~23% discount for one with 2021 papers. I tried one on a couple of years ago...pic below. I recall the strap being rather stiff, and I usually prefer bracelet or rubber strap due to hot humid weather during summer months. Does anyone have or recommend a rubber strap that would allow the use of PP easy use tabbed spring bars? I think black, similar to oysterflex, would look and function great on this one. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Btw current collection below, except the skyd, seamaster, and monaco are gone. I added a blnr on jubilee as well. Sorry I don't have an updated pic. I think the 5524r would provide good contrast to what I currently have....only pp, rg, pilot watch, brown dial, etc... I know the purists don't seem to like the 5524 due to pp history, but I think pp knocked it out of the park honoring their early pilot watches.

Wow, do u think they will fall that much further? I have seen a couple preowned 5524g for 38 and 39, but one sold quickly. Seems to be less 5524r for sale, and have noticed the prices are higher. Both are nice, but go figure I prefer the higher grey priced rg version and dial. Thanks for the advice.

I like both but I’m a sucker for blue so want the G. I think if you want the R now and can get it including tax around 40k just do it if you want it now. I’d say you can save a couple grand if you wait until next year but if I had a crystal ball I wouldn’t have to save a few grand :)

Forgot to add I remember Adrian from Luxurybazaar buying a 5524G for 35k ( as a dealer he has to pay no tax) from some dealer in Miami and that was 6-8 months ago.

Ever since then I feel like mid 30s are doable

Nice Collection

Can I ask, how do you get on with the black and gold oysterflex Daytona? I really like it but wondering how it fairs long term. Does it get much wrist time or does it fall down the running order once the honeymoon period is over?

Love the PP on you by the way.

I am curious why you sold the Skydweller. Was it too big?

Thanks for all of the advice. I'll reply to each later, as I've got some holiday traveling to do. Happy Thanksgiving! I was able to get a quick updated family pic. Short list is yg dd40 with green dial, vtnr on jubilee (I'm a lefty), ss skyd on jubilee (black or blue dial), and maybe this Patek pilot.

5524R is a great watch - the rose gold and brown dial look very elegant - wife has the smaller 7234R and it’s her favorite watch - and she has a lot of choices!

That blue dial is very nice as well. There doesn't seem to be a big difference in price between new and used, but are the prices you referencing for a used G? This R I'm looking at is new and got down to 44k out the door, no taxes as I'll ship out of state. Seller wouldn't do 42k, but I may pull the trigger if they'll do 43k. I hear ya on the crystal ball.

Thanks. I've had the Paul Newman on OF for around 3 years and it still gets plenty of wrist time as it's comfortable, sporty, ceramic bezel, no pcls, pm heft but balanced, color contrast within watch and my skin tone, and my favorite Daytona dial. It gets more wrist time than the ss daytona. I'm actually wearing this Holiday on travel. Highly recommend. I've considered adding another daytona on OF if given the chance from my AD. Plus black and yellow/gold are one of my favorite color combos.

I don't think it was too big on my 7 inch flat wrist. I bought when the skyd was only offered in pm. I felt some of the uniqueness went away when they released in ss and tt. Although the silver sunburst dial was beautiful, I prefer more color contrast within the watch and against my skin as well. Ultimately, it wasn't getting wrist time due to these items along with pcls. I'm on the list with AD to replace it with a yg dd40 green dial and ss skyd black or blue dial on jubilee. I hope i get a call soon.

Thanks. Does anyone know of any good rubber straps that I could use the stock oem easy-release spring bars? Maybe I'll have to go to std gold spring bars or cut a small slit on aftermarket rubber strap for lever of oem spring bar? Thanks again.

Horus straps have the exact measurement for the 5524.

43k seems too high for me but if you save tax and want it now seems fine I guess. At this point I’m becoming too much of penny pincher I guess but only for watches I like but don’t need right now

Thanks. I saw these too, but Horus customer service advised against using with oem spring bars from Patek as I suggested making a small cut in their strap for the spring bar lever to slide into. Lol. Bummer they don't have any rose gold color buckle for these either. I guess I would go black strap and buckle? I would either make the cuts or go with std spring bars (no lever) made of same material as pateks to prevent any damage to case. I assume patek uses gold spring bars to match case material to achieve similar hardnesses? Thanks again.

I made some custom leather straps for my 5524R at Jean Rousseau that use the OEM spring bars and am absolutely thrilled with the results. They have rubber straps as well. If you’re in NYC I would stop in and do it in person.

Thanks. I'll contact them on rubber strap options as it appears the black one online only goes up to 20mm. Love the look though and I could ask about a rg buckle option as well. Would love to see pics of yours if u don't mind, especially the slots in straps to allow use of oem spring bars. Thanks again.

Same here. Looks great! Would love to see rg buckle as well if u went with Jean Roussaeu buckle. Sounds like I'll go with Jean Roussaeu custom straps since they allow for oem quick release spring bars and seem very high quality. I'm thinking a rubber strap for the hot months. Btw, I pulled the trigger on bnib 5524r. Should have in hand next week. Can't wait. My favorite Patek!
