Icon5 36mm Datejust Mod Questions

Hello Gents,
The following questions pertain to a M series 36mm DJ (~2008)...
Must the crystal be replaced when replacing a smooth SS bezel with a aftermarket diamond bezel?
What are your thoughts on bead set vs channel set aftermarket diamond bezels?
Thanks in advance for sharing your expertise.

Keep it original..diamond version djs can be had without breaking the bank. 2 is better than 1

I'm dressing up the watch with stones as a anniversary present for my Wife (already has a nice Jubilee bracelet). The shop is telling me the original Rolex crystal must be replaced, as the bezel won't work with the original crystal. I still have an opportunity to choose between a channel set, or a more expensive bead set bezel, which is why I'm asking for input there. I was not able to find a original Rolex diamond bezel DJ 36 in the style she likes. I'll be keeping the original smooth bezel, to go with the watch if it is ever traded/sold-would never offer without full diclosure, which is another reason I want to know about the crystal.

The crystal wouldn't need to be changed.

As far as the bezel is concerned, if you keep the original (to preserve future value) then it is entirely to taste as to what choice of aftermarket inserts you think may appeal to her.

Just make sure they don't damage the watch in the attempt to bling it up and you'll be ok. The value of the bezel in the future will be the value of the diamonds contained.

The difference in price between the raw cost and the cost of the insert is the "love factor".

I bought my wife a diamond/gold Raymond Weil that's worth its scrap value plus a little, today. She loves it and that's the important thing.

(I could have bought 2 16610LV and a 14060Cosc for the same price but she wouldn't wear tool watches)

Ahh, the things we do for love. ;) Much appreciated, Mr. Dean. Looks like I'll be having another frank discussion with this dealer.
