I’m still not convinced that wrapping the exhaust on a naked bike does much of anything. The pipes are in the flow of air so it’s not like there is heat trapped in close to the engine. Besides, it is an air-cooled motor. They run hot all the time.
But the exhaust threaded under the seat and under ones right thigh has its issues especially on hot days. That was the practical reason for the exhaust wrap in the first place. So I'm back to square one if I keep the standard exhaust and discard using exhaust wrap. The suggestion is to wrap the exhaust in sections, which I could do. But how many sections would I need to individually wrap? 4-6?

Against that, with the QD Box I can have no under seat/thigh heat issues, a clean looking unobscured engine appearance.

I never really noticed it was bad enough that I considered wrapping the exhaust. I think the older 1098 was much worse and the super bikes prior as well. I noticed it on a 2009 Monster 1100 S I test rode, it was scorching my left thigh when stopped at a light on a hot summer day but my 2012 1100 EVO (which is identical to the bike you have) wasn't nearly as bad. I guess comfort and heat tolerance is a personal thing though.

In any case, you could just wrap that portion under the seat to where it comes out on the right side of the bike. That should solve the problem and since you don't really see that section of the exhaust it wouldn't really be noticeable.

I promise you without a word of a lie that (on a warm Summers day in city traffic) it was very stinging hot right under my right thigh immediately to the right side of the seat. That area of the exhaust pipe is not an area that is easily bandaged with heat wrap. Its right on a joint in the pipes as well so its really very troublesome/impossible to wrap in that location without doing one continuous wrap, which means cutting every time the exhaust pipe is removed..

Are you wearing shorts? I don't remember it being that bad on either side and I rode it quite a bit in 100+ degree temps during the summer. My memory isn't quite what it used to be though, I'll admit, and I wear jeans at the very least.

I rode my Multistrada to work today but it was 46 degrees F this morning and I had my heated gear on. I would have hugged my exhaust if I could have.

The temp gauge soares sky high as well and Ducati's sound and run like a sick puppy. They need airflow and momentum!
How do we post pics here again? Photobucket pics won't load........

The V4 and V4S arrived Friday and J had it on display today at Ducati Day and it only had 80km on the clock..

It is certainly up to Ducati's high standard.

It was hard to evaluate the sound it make when just idling but it seemed to me that the V4 configuration plus the Euro emissions requirements had taken away the Ducati exhaust sound that is typical.

It would probably sound ok under load at max RPM.
I will wait until it is run in and find out.
