Both great watches and pick the one YOU like best. For me its the 36mm, I am 6'2 with a 7.25in wrist and prefer the 36. I have a five digit that wears even a little smaller than the six digit. Its all about what you prefer, I find the 36mm to be perfectly sized and the solid gold bracelet gives it more than enough presence. I find a restrained elegance in the 36mm(as much as a gold watch can be restrained) and the 40 to be more sporty.
Its just an aesthetic preference, go with what looks and feels good to you. Pic of mine below for reference.

I'm in the same boat as you. I have tried on the DD40 and the 36mm. I love them both. My best friend and my wife like the look of the 40 on me. However I only have 6.4 inch wrists. I'm short but stocky in build so I think I could lean either way.
I think if the 36mm had nicer deconstructed romans and the ceramic pins, that would be the real winner. A 38mm DD would probably solve all our problems haha. I have been on the fence for almost a year deciding which one to get. Tried them on numerous times. Let us know what you end up deciding on. Sorry I'm of no help but I do empathize with you. Need to make the right choice first time around as these lose a lot on resale. Sent from my MHA-L29 using Tapatalk |

This is exactly where I’ve been since Basel 2017 when the white face 40 was revealed I’m totally with you. If they made one in-between, sold! I’m waiting before buying to see if they update the 36mm dial. I’m not expecting it, but you never know. |

Help Me Decide Which Day-Date
To me that is what is important: proportions, so suggest 36 MM DD. Also 36 MM is the eternal classic! You can probably buy two 36 MM DD’s for the price of a 40 MM; 2 watches better than 1 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

I don't buy into the whole "36mm is too small nowadays" thing. I would go with the classic.

Once upon a time your two choices were what I owned. A DD and a Daytona. And I did that twice over the years.
I say 36mm for the DD - I chose President bracelet first time and than an alligator strap version later (to be better with formal wear). The Daytona’s were sometimes strap and sometimes bracelet models - either YG or Pt...

The 40mm looks fine on you, you like the face better, and the 40 has some nice upgrades over the 36, so that's the way I'd lean.

So, you have wanted a YGDD for awhile. I bet it was the 36mm you’ve dreamt of all these years. Don’t be pulled into a trend (big watches) that you don’t enthusiastically subscribe to. 36mm was good enough for generations of fellas before us.

The 40 looks too big. I would go classic 36mm. I have a 36 and I have a 7.25 flat wrist. It’s just right for a small to medium wrist.

For me the “Double Bump” on the end link of the 40mm President bracelet is a put down.

I like the 40mm better. I was not a fan of the DDII. The way they’ve redesigned the 40 retains the classic themes I love of the watch. The 36 mm is very nice too, but if I had to chose between the two, it would be the 40 for me.
