Charging your lume

Now be honest, how many of you will charge up your lume with your cell phone light just to watch it glow?

I don't do it.

It's common knowledge that if you lume your Rolex too much all the light escapes from the markers.

And it never comes back.

I can't say I've never done it!

I'm have also been guilty of taking it off and holding it close to the lightbulb to give it a good charge before going to bed. I have only done this in places where I will wear my watch to bed such as hotels or staying at someone else's home for example.

I try not to take my watch off at all when not at home for fear of leaving it behind somewhere.

I always charge up the lume on a new watch just to check it out and make sure everything looks right and is functioning properly

I'll sometimes charge a Rolex under a lightbulb before sleeping. It's the only brand I own that requires it, sadly.

I have a UV torch that I charge my lume up with. It only takes a few seconds to get a fierce glow.

A one second burst of 1800 lumens and I need my Ray-Bans to read the time!

When did they begin illuminating CPAPs?

You must only use a Rolex certified 5000K bulb or only some lume gets lit, I think it was Hans who said that.

I've never charged it artificially but I will admit when I went to the movies over the weekend I made sure my sleeve wasn't covering my watch outside to get a nice charge from the sun before going in. I can confirm that the lume on my SD43 stayed nice and visible through the 2.5hrs I was inside. Did WAY better than my 16710 lume did - which typically after an hour or so could not be easily read.

I do it. Never need to with my Seikos, but sadly Rolex requires a boost. Luckily I don't use mine for deep sea diving.

Of course I’ll charge it on occasion; Who doesn’t love a good bright lume?!

I've done it once or twice with my Rolex watches to check out the weak blue chromalight. Never had to on other brands with brighter green superluminova.

The best is a uv light from amazon. I usually hit it for 10 seconds and the dial is fully charged. Last a while too. Better and longer lasting than using a flashlight or iphone light

This.

Too many charge cycles and you’ll wear it out. Or more correctly the lume microbes get too “excited” by the charge and escape the marker plots

Why do you think everyone complains about how bad Rolex lume is? The wee critters have done a runner!

My Breitling Emergency II and Panerai Luminor have very good lume. Rolex not so much, but I like the blue being so unique.

I've charged mine a few times since I bought it a couple weeks ago. However, my Omegas are way brighter with their superluminova.

All the time before a movie starts in a theater w/ my cellphone flash, in the car at night with the overhead map light, and before bed w/ a tactical LED torch.

I do fairly frequently. My 3 year old son likes looking at it when I'm putting him to bed. I usually hit it with a Surefire flashlight for a couple seconds.
