Compact SUV: GLC vs Q5

My wife is in the market for a small SUV. We’ve narrowed it down to either the Mercedes GLC or the Audi Q5. Naturally I’m leaning one way and she’s leaning the other. Any experience with this decision?

Never had a Merc, but I did have a Q5, great and very comfortable driver.

Personally would pick the Macan...

Not much help, but good luck.

We test drove both as my wife needed a new car and ended up with the 2018 Q5. Tech, fit and finish, and sportiness of the drive were the deciding factors. So far we are happy but she did say she wants to go back to BMW in a couple years - the new X3 was not out when we got her car and I have an X5 as my daily so wanted to try something different.

What is your budget? My wife drives a Macan S! I am a car guy. I love driving her car(for gas). It handles great for a SUV! I may get one next for me but it would have to be the Turbo!

Mercedes would be my choice. I have always been a fan of Mercedes and mine has never failed me. The quality of the car is great as is the reliability.

My wife has had both and is currently driving the GLC. Whilst she likes the Mercedes she would go back to the Q5 in a heartbeat.

Anybody else had to make this call? Saw the GLC in cardinal red and it looked very correct. What is “Designo” in Mercspeak?

Designo is the nicer leather.....Very expensive Leather. I Test drove a GLC last year and was quite impressed with it. The Audi to me is a touch too small. But with that said, it's a very nice vehicle as well. I think the Audi is a bit more sporty then the Mercedes...... Both nice. I'm sure you would be happy with either.....

Glc300

Bought the GLC300 back in December, so far it's been worry free. IMHO, the GLC300 has the nicer interior & exterior looks. The Audi has without doubt the best instrument cluster and general tech in the business. Mercedes has this thing for mounting their center display like its an afterthought, it should be integrated into the dash and the 1" wide borders makes it look outdated.

I currently have the GLC and I like it very much I had the Macan for 1 1/2 yrs it's like owning the sports car of SUV's if it's in your budget go for that the Jag F-Pace is a better value than the Macan the GLC is more of a luxury ride than a performance ride which I happen to prefer I ride in my Partners Q5 its a much harsher ride. The GLC also has a much more luxurious and well appointed interior than the Q5.

Have a X3 and love driving it. Test drove the Mercedes GLC SUV and it was equally as good but about 18% more so this didn't justify buying the Merc. I did test drive the Jag and was very impressed with the product but again like the Merc it was 18%-20% more thus I stayed with the X3 and happy I did!

Drove a ton of SUV/CUV's this past year as I did research for 2 new cars. I was looking for a sporty model so SQ5 and GLC 43AMG. Both very nice and fun to drive. Liked the MB better. Just a few more useful features. Guys are correct, the Jag F pace S is a nice ride and a little bigger than others in the segment. Worth checking out.

Why not SQ5? I just got a 2018 one and love it. Interior is completely redesigned and also puts out 355hp, 0-60 in 5 seconds.

I got a 3.0 Q5 last year and I really enjoy it a lot. Tons of pickup, and enough space for my needs (good size boxes) etc. I really like the look of the F Pace... maybe next time for me... Good Luck
