Looking for my first Pam
My watch box is just about full. Thankfully it's a pretty small watch box and I haven't gone broke trying to fill it. I buy one watch every few years and I'm ready to make the Panerai jump. I've been shopping around a lot and tried on just about every Pam I could get my hands on. I think I've come down to a small list.
I'm trying to decide between a 292, and a 112. My budget is around 6 so these are the ones I am willing to spend the money on. I'm looking for something less dressy, as I almost never put on a suit. Camo is my normal daily attire. The 292 is a bit more low key, but the 112's 24mm bands open up a wider variety of non leather options. It's also cheaper and I can use that extra cash for a plethora of bands or just keep in in the bank. The 292 is ceramic and a bit lighter, I'm not the biggest fan of uber heavy watches, but I wear my Sinn U1 all the time and it doesn't bother me one bit. Any advice from those who have either would be appreciated. Also, pics would be appreciated. Thanks in advance! Too long/Didn't want to read, Should I get a 112 or 292. |

112 is a classic bettarini luminor case model. depending on your other watches, this is the "safer" bet as compared to the 292. you can go pre-owned and be well under your budget. if you go sufficiently pre-owned (G series (*i think it's G*) or earlier), you could get a painted dial instead of a sandwich dial. some prefer one or the other (personally, for luminors, i prefer the painted dial, and sandwich for the rads).
292 is a personal favorite of mine and i dream of owning one, but, i have one PAM already (an SS luminor), so, i'm not sure that the 292 would be my only panerai. also, i highly doubt you will find one for 6k, but, if you do, go for it, as you will never lose money should you want or need to flip. regarding weight, since both are worn with straps, neither should feel too heavy and both wear close to the wrist (compared to, say, the 1950s case luminors like the 312). the 292 will feel lighter and feel less massive on the wrist, but, the 112 will be fine, too, after you get used to it. maybe keep it simple: luminor or rad? good luck with your choice! i voted 292 because, one, i really like it, and, two, i like seeing the seconds hand move on the dial. if your choices were 111 and 292, i would have a hard time deciding. |

Between the two I say 112, but I would get the 111 if you can swing it

I also say maybe take a look at the 111.
That'd be my choice over the other 2. If not, my choice is the 292 > 112. |

I'd get a basic Luminor as your first/only Panerai. So 111/005/112/000.

The Base Luminor is the, IMHO, the best look and recreates the history of the brand.
I still wear a Pam 2A as my everyday watch with a Pam 1A as an alternative. Elliot |

Thanks for some sound advice. If money were no option, I'd go and get a 448. I love that cali dial. But such is life. I'm going to have to keep trying on and trying on more pams. Thank goodness I don't have to worry about the strap disease, yet.

The 112 gets my vote. Clean sandwich dial.

112; because Pam is about uncluttered dials (at least to me).

My first PAM was the 111, so I say go with the 112. You won't be disappointed.

I bought a 112 a couple of weeks ago - a great looking watch and very comfortable to wear.

Between the two, I'd get a 112. Buy which ever one sings to you more!

Since it's going to be your first Panerai, I say 112! You won't be disappointed. My first and only Panerai is a 111 and am very happy with it.
