This.

I have done it with my BB trio.

Or photoshop.

I never noticed the watches were set to Rolex time but I did notice they always have the date of whatever day it is. Always.

I also noticed they are pristine, not a scratch, not a swirl, not a ding.

Can you see it?

He sets up the special lights, pulls out his professional camera, hacks the date and time, wipes down the watches and captures the photo. Uploads to IG and then puts the watches back in the safe.

My "how does he do it" question would be how a guy about 30 years old have such an amazing collection of modern & vintage Rolex watches.

I asked him if he was a diver since his name was rolex diver but it turns out he flies radio controlled helicopters for a living. Who knew?

I only have 7. I must be doing something wrong. Seriously. And at 30 I had 1 LOL.

Shout out to that guy! Although if you really want to see someone with a super sick instagram account - www.instagram.com/thehighlander65 is perhaps the winner. He has EVERY modern Rolex and no doubles. If you go back far enough he also had some SUPER SICK AP ROO's that he's not putting in photos. I'd like to know the evolution of that watch collection without seeming like a creepster. I'm sure it's an interesting story.

That's Ken. He's a moderator here. I am sure he would share.

First off I do have to let the watches run all the way down until they stop. After they stop I have to give them a light jiggle to get them running again and usually let them run for 10-15 minutes.

After the 10-15 minutes I pull the crown out when the second hand is at the 31 second mark.

Then rotate the hands to around 10:15am and then slowly turn the crown to make the hands rotate counter clockwise and slowly push the crown back in at the same time.

About 8/10 times the second hand will not start back up when the crown is pushed back in. If the second hand doesnt start to run again I can then pull the crown back out to adjust the time to exactly what I want which is 10:10 and then push the crown back in and the watch is ready for a photoshoot.

If the second hand starts to run again you just get to repeat step 2 of letting it run for another 10-15 minutes and try again.

Alan
Great work Alan!!! Keep it up buddy!

The fact that he asked the question in it of itself is an acknowledgment of the true explanations.

I just don't see why you ask if he's not satisfied with Alan's explanation. His satisfaction status is irrelevant to his comment/question about which method would be easier.

Anyway my order is correct, except that he was replying in agreement, to someone else's "photoshop" comment and then immediately followed up with a question. Therefor it's totally reasonable to assume he was replying to a comment on page 1 (prior to the explanation) then read the actual explanation, and then followed up with a question. That being the case, asking him if he's not satisfied is irrelevant and later on accusing him of suggestin Alan lied seems harsh to me.

You are correct, I agreed with someone else who said Photoshop before I read the explanation later on in the thread. After learning it wasn't Photoshop , I asked someone who knows photoshop if the method I suggested would be easier than what was explained. You got it right, I need to stop replying to threads before reading them in entirety, in retrospect I should have just edited my post. (It happens late at night when I'm sleepy lol)

No that's not what I'm saying I understand it's been explained I was asking a question if he thought it would be a simpler way to do it (since I know he uses photoshop like I do)

Post # 43 Alan says no PhotoShop.

Post # 45 Alan explains how he did it.

Post # 55 Bigsykesdaddy says it's PhotoShop (a day later).

Does the order now make sense to you?
I'll tell you exactly how it happened, I started reading the thread and I was wondering how it was done like others. I read someone suggest photoshop in the first page before I learned the technique used. After learning the technique I asked a professional photographer (Lovehagen. I assume he is, or a very awesome hobbyist) who uses Photoshop if it would be easier to use the method I suggested than to use the method explained.

I'm not sure what the problem is lol?

Anyways... Very cool thread, thanks to the OP for posting it, it was an awesome thread to read and to @alanszabojr awesome IG account man, I just followed you after learning about this thread and your work is awesome

Alan, excellent pics.

I also want to apologise for the thought crime - I assumed P'shop as well, but that just proves my ignorance in the technique of watch-hacking.

Thanks for explaining your process and good to see you are so gracious about some of the feedback.

I don't think anyone suggested that, we were just trying to figure out how his awesome photos were done. That's how you know you have good photos when people wonder how you did it

He then kindly came to the thread and explained how it was done.

At first, I didn't think it was that impressive b/c it was just a page full of Rolexes...albeit set to a specific time. But then the multi-watch shots at 10:10:31 definitely changed my mind. And the explanation of how it was done was even more impressive--true dedication there. Thank you for sharing!

Extraordinary instagram account - how does he do it?

Have had the time to read Alan's interview and other articles in the ether and now realize if we want any Daytona shots we need to enable some Motorsports related pursuits.
Maybe an intro to Dr. Tom at Daytona some weekend...

Or a drive in a GT3RS...

...ps: not my car...

Thanks for contributing Alan and Ken for bringing Alan to the thread!

I've spent too much time wondering how he gets all his pieces at Rolex time

I've been a fan of Alan's photography for years, and he is a very friendly guy on top of that. Anyone being good at something requires a lot of dedication and hard work. It is as simple as that.

Here's how I do it.
Hack, photograph, push the crown back in photoshop.

I do that for all my DSLR pics, even if there is more than one watch.

I don't have the patience for the RolexDiver method. It's Photoshop for me...I just recommend avoiding busy backgrounds. This subway map gave me a challenge, I was wishing I'd done it the other way!

Haha, please, you're making me blush..

I want to send you all of my watches so you can photograph them for me, your photos actually make watches look BETTER than they do in the metal.

LOL

Thanks for the kind words, I should take some new pics for IG, but I haven't had any inspiration lately.

I almost always have a watch on loan to me.

Huge itch for a new watch but I must resist.

I read this and it hits me that when I try and take a watch picture there's a mystery smudge on the ceramic bezel my eye doesn't see but the 15mp camera pics up.

LOL I'm the worst.
