Icon7 Tasty cognac....cheers!

What is cognac?
As the saying goes, all Cognac is Brandy, but not all Brandy is Cognac. Cognac is a distilled spirit (eau-de-vie) made from fermented white grapes, and aged for at least two years. The spirit can only originate from the town of Cognac, France, and its six surrounding viticultural areas. Cognac is unique because of its renowned quality, which is in turn a result of centuries-old techniques that have preserved the identity of the spirit. The process of creating Cognac is extremely controlled, and it adheres to strict rules and regulations. For instance, only natural grape presses can be used to make the spirit. The grapes themselves are special because of the chalky soil where they grow, and the soil is in turn special because of the unique climate created as a result of the Atlantic Ocean. Also, because the aging process is just as important as the actual distillation of the grapes, even the type of wood used for the storage barrels is predetermined and controlled. Only the 60-100 year-old Oak trees in France are deemed worthy for the job. Lastly, tradition and culture play a huge role in the process because each Cognac house has preserved its family secrets for generations.

Where does cognac come from?

Where do cognac alligators come from?

Yes, that's right. A new strap with the color and name of one of my favorite drinks has arrived from the man of Napa, Micah. I'm very happy that he has started with gator straps, and the result is nothing short of extraordinary, IMO.

Here are some pix:

Thanks for looking.

Cru, mon ami, you have such amazing tastes when it comes to leather bands! I've started to collect quite a few for my watches and it goes without saying that you are one of my mentors!

Congratulations my friend, enjoy that beauty.

thanks for the compliments, carl! much appreciated. transforming a watch with a fine piece of leather is good fun (the hunt, the ordering, the waiting, the putting it on, and the, relatively speaking, inexpensive way to have a "new" watch).

i definitely like 'em thick!

that being said, this cognac gator isn't too thick, with it being defined more by the color, the supple feel and the smell. so far, so good.

Thanks all for the comments. Day two with the strap and I am loving the feel of the leather and the look.

Also, I tried oval holes instead of round holes this time, since the oval holes are spaced more closely together, because with a couple of recent straps I've been slightly annoyed with being in between holes. I'm happy to say that I have a perfect fit!

If you feel like sharing what you don't like, I'd be interested to know. I've heard only good things about his straps, and I'm quite happy with my three (cognac gator, mauser and French canvas).
