Thoughts on this 5513

As the search for an Omani DD is going a bit too slow for my liking, I began looking at other models. This 5513 caught my eye. I can't see anything wrong with it, but as always, it's better to check with you guys

i was looking at the same watch, its a real looker. Leather band matches it perfect. gotta love those puffy plots

only thing i felt was weird was how perfect the serial number looked. It looks cleaner between the lugs then my 2000 Gmt lol must of spent alot of time in the safe.

I wonder how the bezel faded so strongly. Maybe the owner lived in the desert? :D

I suspect that it is the combination of the sun UV light and chlorine.

to the OP:

Over all a decent watch. If the price is right, go for it.

As far as the insert goes, some like it, some don't. But I can tell you from my own personal experience that it is different. It's like wearing an all stainless sub, and I really like it. I've got a 1966 Gilt 5513 and a MK 1 - kissing 4 insert that has faded just like yours but not as scratched-up . I'll post some scans later on.

I got to this thread via a reverse image search. I am copying and pasting the below that I just posted to the Watch Out section so as to help anyone else who ends up on this page.

--------

I believe a fraudulent user, claiming to be in Tennessee but with a NYC phone number (who is not answering the phone, only replying to texts), is using these images on a currently (as of 1/16/2015) for sale post on VRF

http://www.network54.com/Forum/20767...ers+first+dial

Alarm bells rang when I emailed him about the year of the watch and he didn't know. Despite the fact that the serial is almost unusually crisp in this example. And, y’know… he’s posting on VRF with the vocabulary (copy and pasted, no doubt) of an experienced dealer on VRF.

I asked for references and he sent me a single thread in the reference section of Watchuseek, where his username is:

http://forums.watchuseek.com/member.php?u=367970

Note the usage of the L for the i in “davis”. Registered couple of weeks ago. Active today.

Upon further searches it appears an impersonation of this actual user:

http://forums.watchuseek.com/member.php?u=115752

Note the spelling of the user name. Registered in 2011. Last active Dec 2014 (at time of writing)

EDIT: I found scam post's original images via a reverse image search on Google… they are from TRF (surprise, surprise) posted in 2013

To triple check, I repeatedly asked him to use his phone camera to take a close up photo of the dial, but alas he keeps sending me the same photos from the TRF thread.

LOL this thread is 2 years old... In 2013 the OP bought the watch (one would assume) and is living happily ever after.

Fast forward to 2015. The thread was revived because a scammer was copying the photos from this thread to sell a fictitious watch over at VRF.

I traced the origin of the photos the scammer was using on VRF by doing a reverse Google Image search. The idiot had not even bothered to change the file names on the photos so Google matched them to this thread on TRF in a second.

This is what scammers do... they copy and paste photos from old FS threads on places like TRF on other forums. This is why all FS photos should ideally be watermarked with the username of whoever is selling. That way scammers cannot create new usernames and pass off the photos as their own.

In this particular case, the scammer was using the username "zivadavls" (notice the "L" in davis) on VRF ... a mispelling of a genuine user's username "zivadavis" (notice the "i" in davis) on Watchuseek... to confuse people even further.

zivadavls was sending people from VRF to Watchuseek to look at the references of zivadavis. The average person would NOT notice the subtle optical illusion mispelling of zivadavls on VRF and think the references belong to the same user. He was falsely gaining buyers trust by impersonating a reputable user.

Scary how simple and effective their tricks can be.
