Hi Guys,

I've got a bit more funding available than when I posted this thread

almost a year ago, so it's high time I got the watch repaired!

I was thinking of contacting these guys:

Anyone had dealings with them? Good and reputable? (And not too pricey!)

Any other suggestions for reliable UK horologists? Look mummy, I used a big word ;)

Hey. I took my TT 1969/70 Date Just 1601 to Russell Talerman back in June 2014 and got a service done on it and haven't had an issue since. They changed all the gaskets and cleaned up the movement. I did have to buy a new 14k gold crown, as they said the existing one needed replacing. I also got them to change the plastic crystal, as it was pretty scratched up. If you do ask them to do that, ask them to keep the original crystal, as I forgot and they discarded it. Overall I'm very happy with the service they provided. Hope that helps.

I have had several vintage watches repaired by http://www.jjbrowneandson.co.uk . They have a small store in Caterham Surrey and you couldn't ask for more help.

Why don't you buy a spare repainted dial in this case, they come on Ebay from time to time?
Here is mine, freshly installed:

In this way you can keep (or sell your old one) and get a new repainted as well.
Price of "new repainted" will be comparible with the cost of repainting.

Also looking at "Time Repairs Ltd" and "Watchworks".

Interesting suggestion, cenzor, but I kinda like the slightly distressed vibe the dial has going on. If I can get the watch functioning as it should, looking clean, and with the scratches on the plexi buffed out a bit, I'll be delighted.

Will repair businesses be able to re-lume the hands and dial? I'm not sure I'd want it done, just interested on how (if) it might be.
