Help! 1979 Datejust winds only when worn

I can't wind my DJ 16013 via the crown, but if I set the time and wiggle it a few times - to make use of the automatic wind rotor before putting it on - it'll run fine while worn. Any ideas what the trouble may be?
Thanks!

Needs some TLC in the form of a service.

I certainly figured something was broken. I was really wanting to know if anyone has an idea of specifically what is broken. Just trying to gauge the cost of repair before I take it for service.

It's possibly a pinion gear that translates the stem rotation to the mainspring winding wheel, or it could be a broken gear on the mainspring barrel... Someone has to take it apart to find out.

It's going to cost what a full service costs since the movement has to come apart. You will find it very hard to get a watchmaker to only take it apart and fix one thing.

My bet...that's a 3035...

The intermediate post on the barrel bridge...is toast...

Unfortunately...the part is only available from Rolex...and I'm pretty sure...

that they will not supply it to anyone...and the watch will have to go back to

them for service to get a new bridge.

I could be wrong but this is my understanding.

That is a very tough part to find in the wild.

This may not be your problem but that is definitely a known issue with that series movement.
