GMT Master Dial Change

Rolex service center wants to change out my dial and hands on original 1978 watch. They say I have moisture damage on dial.

I have the 1675 2 tone with oyster band.

Service cal.1575 $1050, dial is $510 and hands, crown around $250.

Should I do it, will the watch be worth more. Any chance I can save the current dial hands and crown?

Thanks

Yep, put up photos, but chances are it's just RSC being fussy.

+1...that will help others assist you in determining whether the hands/dial are salvageable & aesthetic. if they are, you might be better served taking your watch to an independent factory-authorized RSC for a 'vintage' servicing.

Never change out original parts for service parts on vintage pieces. This affects the value and authenticity of its true circa. You will then have a vintage piece with service parts. Unless it just looks terribly damaged, leave as is. My humble opinion as a long time
Vintage collector.

You may find that they'll refuse to cover the movement for any further damage due to flakes from the dial getting into the movement if you say you don't want to have it replaced.

That's what they said with my Tudor Monarch anyway.

Take your watch back and go to an independent watchmaker. Several really good ones around here. Replacing the dial is a no go imho and will affect the value significantly downwards
A RSC is not the place to go with a classic.

This. Don't ruin a lovely vintage watch.

Great watch OP . Has some real character ....

The two-tone 1675s are such a nice reference - one day I'll own one

Yours looks like a nice example too. If the dial damage is limited to the slight marks I see under the lower text .. and if the dial remains stable, I say enjoy it exactly as it is.

Great to see the rich gilt text and your pics suggest a bit of tropical going on perhaps there ? Right or wrong, the watch presents with some real character . Cool

I'd take a drive to Arlington to say hello to the Ridley's...

What does a replacement dial for these even look like? Does anyone have an example?
