New Nautilus Bezel Defect:are they common?

Have had my 5990 for a few days and only just noticed a small flaw at 1100 in the bezel edge at one of the corners which catches at certain light angles

Seems to be the same overpolishing issue that another member had:
https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=501609&page=2[/URL]

It's my first PP and was really expecting perfection. I did inspect with a loupe at my AD but was so carried away with the excitement that I missed this.

Am I expecting too much? It would seem some others have this but happy to overlook?

My gut says that if it's just been noticed after 10 days, probably not too much to get worried about. Cheers

IMHO you're not expecting too much. I would call AD and see how he could take care of this.

If you are not the one that make this then contact immediately your AD and ask for a perfect 5990 that you have actually paid and this is not.

Can we get some different angles to see if it is just lighting or in fact a defect? (Not trying to insult your intelligence just wanted to confirm it is a polishing issue)

Its a flat watch with quite sharp edges, so dings and scratches are bound to happen if you really wear it.

That said the dings are for you to put on not the dealer , and it should have been 100% when it was handed over to you,

For me I'd just relax, wear it , and go about my business.

Great watch by the way !

Honestly from this angle it looks like what happens when a nautilus bezel knicks something. Doesn't take much. Wouldn't bother me.

I wouldn't let it bother me. At the end of the day, these are for the most part hand made and nothing is perfect. You have an amazing watch there. I would strap it on and wear it and enjoy it :)

if i remember correctly there was another thread regarding to the 5990's bracelet being defected before, but if you're concerning it, then it's probably the best that you bring it back.

Any chance you had slight scuff on it. Looks like some of the metal on the edge was removed with a small ding

Was it sealed when you bought it?

How long have you had it? Looks like it got dinged, but who is to say when it happened?

Looks like a ding mark, this stuff doesn't just slide past Patek QC. Tell your AD, but because of the amount of days that have gone by, they will probably offer to polish/smooth it out for you and not replace with a new one.

I think it's a ding u didn't notice you incurred. You did a loupe investigation and wore it for 10 days without noticing?? It's pretty obvious to the naked eye..a simple knock against door frame is all it takes

I would leave it alone. You risk a bad polish job. Don't do it. Wear the watch and enjoy. The first is alway the worst.

The first IS always the worst if you made the ding, but if the AD made the ding it's not the worst or bad, it's unacceptable.

That said, I thought the PP ADs keep most models wrapped up and sealed in a box.

Agree. They are not making a favor selling these watches

I now see where Karl got the 10 day reference from:

https://www.rolexforums.com/showthre...42#post7349142

From the pic there when you first got it, I'd think that mark would show here...and doesn't. Not sure the AD can be blamed for the one... just live it it. With the Nautilus, Aquanaut, and Royal Oak type bezels, it's bound to happen unfortunately.

It's only in certain light angles, and not seen when on my wrist in the new photo! The AD has seen and agrees it should be better. It was double sealed and we opened it together when I purchased but I didn't see it/inspect the way experienced folk do on here!

He'll discuss with PP UK but I do take all points made.

Thanks for the replies and will keep posted.

Here's an example of my 5712 .. I had a tiny bump (TINY) fairly soon after purchasing it. Have a look at the bottom of the bezel, you can see a very similar mark on my bezel. Doesn't even bother me.

Thanks for the support, guys. I am going to wear it and enjoy! First time noticing these always painful, but it's not for the safe-and definitely a keeper!
