5196 j vs r
My question is for those familiar with both and relates to the dial: is it more silvery/white on the 5196j and more grey on the 5196r? That's my impression and am now torn between preferring rose gold and what appears to be a more attractive dial color (to me anyways) on the yellow gold model.
What material are these dials made of. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I may be mistaken, but that's my recollection. Dial composition should be the same regardless, as I don't believe these models were ever offered with gold or enamel dials. |

Hmmm. So u think they both have the same dial color/tone now (I am looking at brand new ones). I wonder what the dials are made of, too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The current R and J versions have the same color dial ("opaline white").
I may be mistaken, but I think you will need to find an early version of the 5196r to get the dial you want. Hopefully I'm wrong though, and someone else will correct me. |

I tried on a 5196R at the Geneva salon about two weeks ago and it had a silverish dial that, to me, matches what patek.com shows for the G. How that translates into availability or if they still produce them in that combo is something I don't know.

I went to several retailers in Hong Kong today. 5196R (left side in picture) and G (right side in picture) have grey dials, while the J (middle in picture) has a whiter dial, which I prefer. I like rose gold more than yellow gold. I wish the R has a whiter dial like the J.
