I guess it might be useful for a vintage with non-quickset...

Hi Guys,

Since this thread is about winders, anybody has an idea of what Brand is this winder?, it has nothing written just some chinesse lettering on the motor board, I haven't used it , it was a gift from my AD, outside finish is beautiful though.

Thanks.

I think this is the issue. If you've a watch with more than a date complication and want it ready to go, then winders can make sense. I have a Ball Worldtimer which takes a while to set--and if you don't do it right, time to set it again.

Or sometimes I have a pair of watches that I trade off every couple of days. Then keeping one on a winder helps.

I don't think a winder is a necessity but is a convenience from time to time. I think it depends on your watches and wearing habits.

particularly a 1675. Never wanted to let that one run down...no quickset date made that one a more than 30 seconds to set watch if you let it go a few days.

There is also the risk of pulling the crown out if you mess with it too much

As in accidentally using way too much force in getting the crown to the setting position?

Using a Orbita winder for 20 years with my Rolex. Love them. After my TT Subs first 15 year routine service showed no excessive wear at all.

I'm a 'grab and go' guy and I use a winder. Every time this subject comes up there are folks that have a very strong opinion against winders. Heard it a hundred times now. The same people that rant against winders will also tell you that it is perfectly okay to wear your watch 24/7. The fact is that watches are mechanical devices and they wear and will need servicing. Put it on a winder, or set it every few days, it is just one kind of wear and tear vice another. You can't avoid servicing.

If you want the convenience of a winder there is nothing wrong with it. You can even find one branded by Rolex. I have an Orbita I bought used and it works well and is silent which is nice in the bedroom. It is a 2-head Siena. I paid $100 to have Orbita refurbish the rotors. Still has the original batteries going on 3 years now.

If you get a winder get a decent one and don't be put off my the constant lecturing. It's your watch after all.

many thanks for all opinions - both good and bad

i have spoken to my Rolex AD and he can supply a Wolf at a very competitive price so i will go ahead and buy one

to me its simply a matter of convenience and now with three watches i chop and change and i find it irritating to find one run down - then having to go online to get an accurate time to reset the watch in question
