Beware of Michael White (MAWhite)

Received a threatening email from this guy.
Just wanted to let everyone know we don't go along with threats being held to ransom:

Did he try to scam anyone? I don't see why posting his full address on a public forum is needed; especially if his account is closed and he can't use it to contact anyone.

You don't send threatening emails to anyone do you?

Of course not. Just don't see why his full address needs to be printed out for anyone to search against.

Threats like this are unacceptable and I agree we all need to be aware. I never considered how our Admin and Mods could be threatened over banning someone.

So you think people who make personal threats to your family deserve the protection of anonymity?

If he threatened your family, you should take action beyond posting here. That's a VERY different situation.

Based on the email above, his plan seems to just be to bad-mouth this forum on other watch forums. Unless there's more to the story?

IDK...it's early and I haven't had coffee yet. Just posting my thoughts.

TRF is my family.

So you approve and encourage these kinds of threats so they escelate?

And advocate the concealment of the identity of those who engage in that conduct?

I don't see how questioning posting up his full address on a public forum equals me approving and encouraging his actions? I find that email disgusting.

But that's all for me in this thread. I feel you're taking my comments incorrectly.

Threatening emails is an instant and permanent ban. It may also be a crime.

What goes through the mind of somebody like this.

I think he is taking your comments the wrong way. I do not see how posting private info is allowed at all.

that particular message isn't a criminal threat, according to the prosecutor I just showed it to. she says it's closer to extortion but again it falls short

But -- I'm not second guessing this thread. Even if legal, that message is far outside the bounds of civility and decency

The threat notwithstanding, where did the address come from? Has it been validated to come from the sender of the threat? I would be concerned about inadvertently SWATing someone, which could turn into a greater liability for the forum than the promise of slander contained in the threat. My $0.02.

Agree.

A step further. Even if this is his address please nobody do anything to this individual. I would edit out his home address. Fast.

Lol-x is a barrister and a senior partner in a law firm.

He also owns this place.

If he wants to do this, he can.

Does "can" = "should" though?

Now knowing his occupation, I can find Steve's home info in a matter of minutes (if even that). Would he be OK if I posted it to other forums he doesn't have access to?

Staying out of all this, but figured I'd look up the property and the name in the first post matches the owner of the property per the County Property search website.

Yeah no kidding. For someone to think it is okay tends to shine a different light on their judgement.

Mr. White was clearly making a threat and that is always grounds for banning. I'm a retired lawyer and know a threat when I see one.

As a former lawyer, let's say Steve came to you as a potential client. He tells you that someone has threatened to bad mouth his website on other websites. You gonna take the case as actionable?

I don't see anyone here questioning the banning.
