The time between March 11th and today seems like months. What difference 9 days make (US perspective).

Agreed. Our process in my ER has changed/evolved half a dozen times since way back then, and will evolve more so in the next week, as an isolation tent is erected outside the hospital.

I picked the worst time in all of my lifetime, to become a Nurse Practitioner. Ya got the regular ER NP stuff (which is FAR different from being an ER Nurse), and now the added complexity of COVID. Man, I wanna go back to a simpler time when a viral URI was just that, and was sent home with supportive care. Nowadays, it's slightly more complex.

Interesting BBC article. How many of the projected deaths would occur naturally anyway?

What has gone so wrong in Italy? I’m not having a go, pointing fingers or anything like that, it’s tragic.

I’m also not saying the same won’t happen here in the U.K. but it’s just rampant and the theories are all different

Just read a warning from police about scammers offering to get supplies for people and taking their money!

Also ‘fake’ testers praying on vulnerable people!

Some people are beyond help!

Could not disagree more. And my gratitude for those in the medical profession who are stepping up is beyond words.

He was just kidding; the kind of gentle intra-medical mockery that many in the game engage in from time to time. There are some memes doing the rounds...

I see that my previous oust was deleted... Anyways, looking at the picture I quoted in my previous post it seems that it is the normal progression of the infection.

It may be the “normal” progression if you fail to act quickly. However these numbers are not reflected everywhere that has significant numbers of cases. It’s a warning against complacency.

As there’s a built in latency between mitigating actions like social distancing and their effects, if no further action were taken I’d expect our numbers to track those of Italy’s for the next two weeks. Fortunately, action is being taken to dramatically ramp up ITU resources so I remain hopeful that we may not see the same level of casualties and that we can keep a lid on things until the new lockdown measures start to slow the spread of the virus.

Covid 19 Stop-Gap Solution

Not a traditional vaccine but perhaps a good start.

Here is an immediate partial step using plasma from recovered patients being started by John Hopkins. Of course pending regulatory approval.

Doctors and those with medical background, I would love to hear your thoughts.

Looks like Bills words fell on deaf ears back in 2015 and may be coming true. Hopefully we get another shot to prepare correctly.

This is the most hopeful news yet. There will be a lot of people who survive this disease who would be able to help those who are struggling. This can be tested and scaled rapidly as opposed to novel meds or a vaccine, it's easy to test a donor, and (hopefully) easy to match to recipients. I look forward to the results of ongoing trials!

Just seen loads of pictures of people in bars and clubs in the U.K. last night, partying prior to them shutting!

How much spread did that cause

Freshly still delivered my food on time this morning. 12 meals for $110, they last 5-6 days in the fridge. I've been getting these since September, but could be a good option for older members.

Well if you perfuse the widely circulated and continually updated article published by Tomas Pueyo then every day we don't enact social distancing can increase the final total case number by 40%. See Chart 23.

I sincerely hope you get your prescriptions without problem.

I at no point tried to invoke panic buying or hoarding but being realistic there are bound to be delays (not shortages).

Most chemists have one pharmacist and they are party to the same isolation rules if symptomatic like the rest of us due to our lack of testing key workers.

Hi

Our local chemist is only allowing two people in the shop at a time. Waiting outside the shop everyone else is spaced/spread out and maintaining social distancing. This makes it look like a big long/giant queue.

Better than an orthopedic surgeon! Radiologists are going to have to do their own clinical correlations now.
