I think the GMT is the way to go. I keep buying watches but the GMT gets all the wrist time. I see so many subs out there which also reinforces the choice.

I find I wear my GMT more often when I'm wearing colors, but put on my subs when wearing black or gray. I didn't realize I was such a fashionisata.

My black bezel Y-series GMT-II gets about 95% of my wrist time. I guess that says it all for me.

+1 GMT

Owned and sold 2 subs. Whilst a beautiful piece I found it too common and actually not that comfortable. I now have 2 GMT's.
The gmt feels more comfy to wear too.

The question is too general. Best watch for whom? Under which circumstances?

If you don't know where you are going then it doesn't matter which road you take.

compromise

GMT II with a black bezel.

You get nearly all the functionality of a dive watch, you can replace the spring to make it unidirectional, and you get the 24hr hand.

(Now if you actually DO need the extra depth rating and the safety of a true diving bezel, then so be it. But if you don't...no question for me)

GMT can come close to covering MOST all the functions of a Sub Date. The Sub can't mirror the GMTs extra time zone

(but your smart phone can)

Could go either way. I think a deciding factor would be if you like the polished center links or not. I don't have a Sub but have the GMT and love it.

both....

When I wear my my GMT pepsi- see avatar, I contend that with it's lower profile it is the best and only watch I will ever need..

When I wear my vintage submariner- with it's classic look and slightly smaller looking dial, I contend the it is the best and only watch I will ever need..

There is no answer here, except to own both and switch them every two to three days....

Either, but if you travel regularly or have business overseas then the GMT makes more sense

I use a sub for timing parking meters and the gmt for a change of pace. So, it depends what I'm doing.

Can't go wrong with either.

I would say a Submariner because in my opinion the GMT bezel is more bold. When I think of an "everyday watch" I think of an "every occasion watch" which in my opinion, requires more subtle features. The pics of submariner's on this thread are fantastic.

Apart from the Cellini collection, every Rolex to me is bomb proof. You can wear it anytime anywhere you like even in any attire. My Day-date follows me to dinners, my workshop (automotive), jungle trekking, river crossing etc. You name it I wear it! If your choice is zero down to only these two models then my realistic vote is the GMT because of its useable function rival the depth capability of the Sub.

Better everyday watch of the 2?

If you go deeper than 100m underwater, the sub.

If you need time zone functionality, then probably the GMT.

Beyond that, to me they are only separated by subjectivity.

They serve 2 different functions. For me the sub would work great, but for a person who travels or does business over seas the GMT would probably be more useful.
