Watches you've bought more than once, only to sell again

What watch or watches are you drawn to but for one reason or another, can't seem to stay in your collection? I'll start:

1.) Speedmaster
No matter how hard I try to like the watch, there's always something that makes me get rid of the watch. I've bought and sold 3 iterations now (the reduced, a vintage from the late 90's and the most recent Buzz Aldrin butt edition). I understand the history and they're nice enough in pictures, but I think it's the lyre lugs that kills it for me.

2.) Vintage
Not a specific watch per se, but just vintage in general. I've owned a Tudor Snowflake and a birth year 16800, both of which lasted around a year or so - not to mention vintage Hamiltons and Omegas that have come and gone as well. Like the Speedmaster comment above, they look nice in pictures (patina, domed crystals, etc.), but I think I'd rather have something that will look new for a long time, thus my love for the 16710 and newer pieces.

Jesse, we defer here brotha. I love vintage much more than the modern stuff. For instance, if I’d have bought a 116613lb or the 12 series model I’d have sold it already. The ceramic bezel does nothing for me, the colors look silly in the bezel. However, the way the aluminum bezel ages on a 5 digit reference makes my soul happy whenever I look at it.

Ah, but Mr. G we do agree - my favorite watch is my 1st Rolex, the one and only 16710. Nothing quite like the gloss dial coupled with the aluminum insert. I don't consider my GMT vintage, and I don't know if it will ever be classified as such. Let's just call it 'perfect' for now.

Well, to reiterate my first statement. I thought your 16800 was outstanding, kicking myself a little for not trying harder to buy it from you!! That bluish hue of the bezel was nothing short of sexy.

I don’t know if I’ve seen your 16710.

I guess my 16613lb isn’t “vintage” per se, but the contrast from it to the newer iterations makes me feel like it is.

Panerai GMT:
I have bought and sold three references within 5 years, PAM531/PAM944/PAM533, trying to find the perfect GMT watch at a reasonable price.

The original Speedmaster. I've owned and sold 2 of the previous hesalite versions. Love Speedy's history and looks, but the older type of bulky bracelets killed them for me.

Speedmaster here as well. I’ve had at least 2, maybe 3. I imagine I’ll buy another before too long . I really like them, but likely need to buy a modern version to keep it.

Who does this? What's wrong with you guys?

Just kidding... Good thread!

I have come close to re-purchasing an IWC GST Chrono but it won't happen. All I need to do is look at the profile. Plus the blasted titanium doesn't age well. Great when new and all matte, but scratches and dings make it look ugly in no time compared to brushed or even polished steel.

Explorer II’s, Daytona’s, DJ’s, Bluesy’s, Seamasters, Speedmaster, DD’s…

Ranging from 2-3 each over the years up to 6-8 for Daytona as the mood/desire motivated me or a siren song that couldn’t be resisted…

No regrets since any one of them could be had again - but for now content with a vintage DJ & Omega plus a Calatrava.

14060/114060. Bought one in the late 90s, I wore it a total of one time. 5513, 16710 and 16610 were part of the collection at the time, I always chose them over it. Gave it to a family member who loves it and still wears it. Bought a 114060 when it first came out and wore a few times, but it never really did anything for me. Always felt like I was cheating on my 5513 when I was wearing it so sold it for a song and dance to a friend who hasn't taken it off his wrist since then.

Speedy (excluding my wedding watch) 3x

Naturally didn't flip any of these for profit, just always one reason or another I end up buying and selling these.

Speedy as well. Had a modern one and then a vintage pre-moon. Ended parting with both. I currently want the latest ones, but something tells me I just shouldn't waste my time.

Great watch. But I don't why I have the: "want it, buy it, sell it and repeat" mentality with it.

The Speedmaster is the only watch that I have eve sold and then bought back. I should have never sold my first one. Now, I am talking to my boutique about a 321 or a Canopus Speedmaster. If they ever come up, I will simply give my Speedmaster to my son.

Speedy here too. Had both Speedy Tuesdays, an Apollo 8 and a 3861 sapphire sandwich. Sold all of them and never looked back. Hope I will never fall for the moon marketing again.

BB Blue x2
Reverso (although two different iterations) x2

I'm on Daytona number 2, and won't make that mistake again (I hope).

Speedmaster.

Love the look, buy one, can't wind it (comfortably), sell it, see another awesome Speedmaster photo and think its a good idea to own one, look for another, buy it, can't wind ....

I've had three Speedmasters too.

Sapphire Sandwich — felt a lot cheaper in person than in photos, mainly due to the printed dial. Traded up after a few weeks.

Then got a Speedy Auto which I liked a lot better — JDM only model with a reverse panda dial and red accents. But never really bonded with it and sold it.

Lastly a Speedmaster MK40 (the multicolored one). Always loved it the most and came across an opportunity at a good price. Probably going to keep it, as it keeps me from buying any more Speedmasters.

Got a Speedmaster 38, didn't like it and got rid of it. Can't deal with the size of the Sapphire Sandwich (or most of Omega's offerings in general - too thick and big), so my beater is a Japan Market Speedmaster 3513.53. Comfortable, light, fits like a glove and has a guilloche dial and red accents. It is the most legible of all my pieces too. Actually...pretty similar to the MK40 referenced above.

Funny so many of us have had Speedmasters and sold them only to buy them back again.

Same for me - am on my 3rd one now. Original version with hesalite and presentation box.
Have a number of straps for it as the first thing I did was took it off the bracelet.

Tag Monaco - on my 3rd one of these. Started with a black faced Monaco with Tag Heuer branding (CW2111), then went to the blue dialled gulf branded one but found the dial too busy and now have the CAW211P which I really like.

ETA, in-house, Blue, Red, Steel….

Speedmaster X2... just hate how it winds, which makes it tough for a manual wind watch.

Bell & Ross X4... I love the idea of the square case, but they just don't look right on my wrist, especially the rubber strap.

This is my 3rd go round with this one, only sold as I was moving my way up the brand tiers but came back when I realized this is my sweet spot of value for $$

Was wearing it when our second daughter was born so it’s a keeper now
