Icon14 Incoming!

I ended up wanting to buy a piece to celebrate my recent trip to Patek.

I happened across this gem (5116R) at my AD when I went in to show them the pictures from the tour. It's the perfect piece for me, I love the 5119 hobnail style and this one has an enamel dial. After watching the enamel process and guilloche (dials), it's cool to be able to get a piece that has both techniques on display.

Beautiful watch! You have to use a loupe to appreciate the enamel dial, as from a distance, the 5116R can look almost identical to the 5119R.

By request, I tried to take one where you could see the stippling from the enamel on the dial. You can see it with the naked eye, but it requires the right lighting. If you look at the specular highlight on the Patek logo you can see how it is kind of lumpy/bumpy.

When they paint the enamel onto the dial they use tiny little blobs/points of enamel power in solvent (water or oil). After they get a full coat on, they press it dry with a kleenex-like towel before they bake it in the oven. The final surface will be slightly uneven.

IIRC the Stern family was originally a watch dial manufacturer before they became owners of Patek Philippe and they know how to make excellent enamel dials! Enjoy this beautiful watch

The dial factory was my favorite part of their production facilities to tour.
